June 4, 20196 yr Author Not that we know anything but if we were allowed to choose prep arms I'd, uhh, have preferred Josh Wolf and Allan to Thompson/Dalquist.

That gets us half way. $700k seems like a lot to have saved on the first 2 picks. We might not have much left. You make up the difference by selecting cheap seniors with no leverage in rounds 5-10. That adds up to massive savings when you sign guys for $10k instead of slot.
June 4, 20196 yr What are the numbers the teams are calling in? Like, do the players have serial ID numbers that have to be verified? "Oh shit, Adley Rutschman was 00012! We read 00011! The Sox got him and we got Vaughn!!!"

June 4, 20196 yr 10 minutes ago, steveno89 said: Sox will almost certainly have to go overslot for one of or both of Thompson and Dalquist. Dalquist has the profile of a prospect that actually might make it as a starter in 3-5 years. Thompson is an upside lottery ticket play who might gain strength and velocity. Both are players that could be first round talents in 3 years, great gets. Dalquist is for sure over slot. I think Thompson may be under - even if just a tad.
June 4, 20196 yr I like this strategy for the Sox so far. Infuse some youth into this system. My guess is that they are saving like $500K on Vaughn and maybe another $500K or so on Thompson. Thompson had a down year. He might be under $1.5 million. Good stuff so far.

Numbers are good, but are bad as part of a broadcast. Have Tim Anderson host the draft. He rates the prospects by #StickTalk and ability to have fun. He also shit talks every Royals pick.
