How does one extra day make that much of a difference in this situation?

I think this also allows us to skip the missing rotation slot, no?

I just imagine Francona standing behind a dejected-looking Plesac at the rental counter like "no, he will NOT be needing SiriusXM radio, thank you very much."

  • It still cracks me up that the Indians sent Plesac home in a rental

Our offense seems to be on to something. Wr have a day off tomorrow and could play 3 games against a rusty and depleted team. Give me the 3 games.

I said it the other day Foster has a great riding fastball, nice to see that confirmed in this tidbit from Fegan this morning (go get a sub to the Athletic):

Obviously it helps that Foster’s commanding it, but it’s also working because he’s averaging 10.04 inches of carry on it; a factoid that was pointed out to him somewhat recently, and worked to shape his approach around his attributes.

Cancel St Louis

I’d say that too, but would they just go by everyone’s winning percentage at the end, and some teams play 54, some 57, some 60? Because just forfeiting their games isn’t fair either. At this point, the Cardinals may just have to try to squeeze in 50 games, and MLB may have to make a decision on their postseason eligibility on how they would qualify.

Cardinals players can't play double header. Advantage for us.

Why is that?

Honestly at this point it has to be a forfeit imo.   Lets say this goes on for another week, St. Louis loses what, 10-15 games?  Are they going to get in Playoffs because their winning percentage is super out of whack because they haven't played a fourth of their games?

and lets not pretend like this is a total mystery either, players went out to a casino.

Let's just sweep them and put them out of their misery so nobody has to worry about them finishing in the playoffs, regardless of games played.  They don't seem ready to play from what people here are saying, even before the cancellations, so let's bury them and set them on a 10 game losing streak.  Karma.

Absolutely can't be forfeits.  That would give the Central division teams a HUGE advantage over teams in the other divisions in the playoff race.  Better to just finish the season with some teams playing 54 games, some 57, etc. and go by winning percentage.  But I agree the Cardinals season should be cancelled.

MLB has already said they won't play 60 games and the playoffs will be decided by win %.

This Cardinal situation is just embarrassing.

The Cardinals would now have to play 55 games in 44 days. It's just a joke.

Some teams in the division playing 4-5 less games than others throws off the balance big time.

If this were happening to the White Sox and not the Cardinals, would we as Sox fans even want them to resume the season??  I'd want to see them play, but I'm not sure I wouldn't prefer their season be cancelled.  Long layoff and then jumping into a schedule full of double headers....seems rife for injuries.  And with no guarantee they'd play enough games to even be eligible for the postseason.  No thank you.

I feel like a 'Field of Screams' reference should be in here somewhere, but I wasn't sure how to frame it.

Anyone want to attempt it?

They haven't played in 3 weeks.

I don't think MLB has actually said they WON'T play 60 games.

But MLb has said IF a team does not play 60 games, they'd go by winning %.

I think you have to make the Cardinals try to play 60 games.  Get them on the schedule.  Take all their off days. Bury them with double headers.  If they end only getting 55 games in, then that's what happens.  But I think you have to try.  You can't just let one team play 40 games and still be eligible for the playoffs.

If this goes on much longer, it's ridiculous for the Cardinals' season to resume. So their pitchers will be going 2-3 innings max for the foreseeable? Time for some of their players/pitchers to opt out. They can't be in proper shape to pitch.

Carlos Martinez is already an example...

How about split squad?

Double the games then.

The league has already said it would be unfair for STL to go right into games without at least a couple of workouts. So Friday looks to be doubtful unless they bring up a bunch of taxi squad players for the first few games.

Nightengale is reporting no game on Friday, hoping for a DH on Saturday. The Cards play at White Sox and then at Cubs, so stay away from the Michigan Ave. area the next few days.

Congrats on your number getting retired by the Phillies!

I'm seeing being it reported two different ways between Heyman and Nightengale.

Bob's tone is optimistic saying no positive tests and Cards can use today and tomorrow for workouts and start playing with a DH Saturday.

Heyman was saying one coach tested positing so series is being pushed to Saturday but still in doubt?

Either way, if you ask me: play ball.

Then they should be able to play a triple-header.

They aren't in game shape as they've only played a few games as is. The risk is injury, not being tired.
