Jon Lester as a stop gap for only a 1 year Deal

Featured Replies

Ok, before everyone goes nuts and jumps on me this is not a vote of confidence and me saying sign Jon Lester and I'm only in favor if he passing a serious physical and is willing to sign a 1 year deal.

Pro's for signing him:

  • Stroman doesn't like La Russa
  • Bauer probably won't sign, Sox won't pony up the money
  • Veteran who knows how to win
  • May sign an affordable contract with incentives, i.e. innings, era, starts etc.
  • Stop Gap until Kopech, Crotchet and Cease are ready
  • Left hander
  • Can be used in long relief if being a starter doesn't work.

Con's for signing him:

  • Ex-Cub, LOL
  • Age, 36/37
  • Below average 2020
  • Showing signs of wear
  • Can't throw to 1st Base, LOL
  • Ex-Cub,LOL
  • HE may have illusions of grandeur of what he's worth
  • May not have anything left in the tank.

This is a last resort move if absolutely nobody else can be signed

Cons: he's cooked?

Pros: My Cubs fan friend messaged me about losing Lester so I know it would probably grind his gears to see him on the Sox.

What do you mean?

I don't think you understand what "pros" means

It wasn't the most inspiring list of pros ever assembled.

I also can't stop focusing on illusions of grandeur

Well he’s bad soooo

No

With the hire of TLR no stop gaps.  You are either swinging for the fence or not

I'd be happier seeing him sign with the northside team and having another sub par season.

No. He’s dogshit.

I think Lester is a class guy, and has been a great pitcher. But at this point, there is no reason to sign him. I could see him giving up a ton of homers at GRF. The team has already signed a multitude of players way past their prime. Let him get lit up somewhere else.

God no.  Dude's done.

As much as I enjoy a good cub fan gear grinding, I don't think it would be worth it in this case. What would really grind if I was a cub fan would be seeing Quintana return to form alongside the guys traded for him on the south side. Much better chance of that. He still has his stuff and his recent peripherals haven't been that far off.

I mean he would be an EXACT replacement for Gio
