I think Maggs broke out a little earlier and never got pushed out of affiliated baseball altogether at one point.  Yermin is quite the story if he continues to hit.  He looks as locked in as anybody!  Luke Voit might be a good comparison as someone who always hit but never got any hype or look because they were a lumbering 1B / DH type of player.

Agreed - Maggs never had the adversity etc. he was young - got a shot on a rebuilding team and never gave it back.

Like the Voit comp. Nice thing is - so far I have seen Mercedes hit every pitch. I know the league will adjust but he seems to have a complete swing.

Not something you want to hear a presumably grown man say out loud too often tbh

I wonder if Yermin can end up like Maggs. Not comparing how they got there or the actual talents - but if I remember right, Magglio was never viewed as special - but when he got his shot he hit and never stopped hitting.

Yermin looks like the real deal offensively. Age be damn - that bat plays.

It's like something Houston might do.  They played Altuve and also didn't trade Altuve when nobody thought he was special.  And Yordan wasn't really all that exciting of a prospect IIRC either.

Yermin doesn't fit a mold.  If he does it's more like a jello mold.  But sometimes you chase prototypes too much and as Hawk would say, you out-dumb yourself.  Ultimately the guy can hit, so give him a shot.

Damn I thought V had a double there.

Garcia needs to put the ball in play there.

Better at bat by Vaughn. He is still not as quick as he needs to be...he is going to be fine though...better than fine.

Vaughn in there for defense.  We will get our offensive production out of Hamilton.

all things considered that was a pretty good atbat

Vaughn looked much better that AB

Much better AB for Vaughn there.

Gonna have to show you can pull a fastball.  Last ten days or so of Spring, Vaughn seemed to tire and bat was really dragging.

Yermin is what Vaughn was supposed to be

Vaughn doesn't look lost.  He just looks a little off.

Too bad he's also not on the White Sox.

Progress for sure. In a weeks time vaughn wont be pressing and raking

Once Engel returns, you gotta send down Vaughn to get that extra service year

The DH spot is occupied

What's concerning is he had to be looking first pitch fastball and was still late on 92.

I like our DH better.

Hamilton almost ran through the wall for that foul ball.

For sure, unless he starts doing really well

Man - that tatis injury had to be one of the most unique injuries I have ever seen. Right there with Eloys. Terrible.

Even if service time wasn't a consideration, if Vaughn is struggling, I'd rather see him get regular AB's in the minors just for development purposes.
