I'm so glad we hired Tony LaRussa so this team could be managed like a 1999 National League roster. We're plucking guys off the street and dumping them into our lineup over our top prospect whom we're

Can you imagine if we had Lynn in the playoffs last year?

Come on Bulls give me a strong 4th quarter finish and this will be a good night.

Don't get me started

Is there a post game show anywhere? I have Hawks and Bulls on my 2 NBC Sports channels

I was watching a Sox game and a hockey game broke out??

Yeah but that might have cost us Dunning, Foster and Marshall to get him last year.

I blame Jon Daniels. He probably would have wanted Kopech.

2021 vs righty starters: .206/.325/.290/.615

This isn't something we didn't see coming when Eloy went down, it's 100% accurate to question whether or not this lineup has enough thunder vs righties, so far they're not fairing well at all.

Can I please get an update on these numbers?

Chris Rongey is doing a YouTube live postgame and hanging up on people for old times sake.

I'm sure he's chomping at the bit to sign one of those affordable Sale/Quintana deals that the Sox can dangle as a trade chip a couple yrs later

How about 2/$40M?

Gotta strongly disagree with previous answers, no way he drinks light beers. Bud heavy for sure, but he probably calls it Bud diesel.

Rongey is a tool

Honestly I would keep mendick over Leury.

This post only looks smart if they sign him to an extension.

My posts rarely are going for smart.

Getting Lynn was expensive and dunning will probably have more War in his 5 years than Lynn this year but Lynn really was almost an ace his last years and is the much needed second TOR guys the Sox need for the post season until one of kopech, crochet or cease is ready to take over that number 2 role.

Yeah dunning is probably a nice 2 war 5th starter but going in with him, cease or keuchel as your number 2 into the post season is not great.

Yeah it is just one year of the window but if you waste 1 year you really waste like 8-10 years of control (because Robert, madrigal, Giolito, Anderson... all lose a year of control and wasting it by not having a real number two is bad.

From now on you don't want to push in your chips too early but you can't really waste a year either so the Lynn trade was a good compromise of keeping talent while not wasting a year due to a huge hole in the roster.

Why, they could have signed him as a free agent next season. He's not going to give them a "discount" on an extension.

This year is still a developmental year for so many rookies (Robert, Vaughn, Madrigal), and Kopech is stuck in the bullpen until 2022. Last year, they signed Keuchel and Grandal, and expected Kopech back, so I guess it could have worked in theory pre-COVID with Cease and Rodon/Gio as a rotation.

However, it is now costing them starting this offseason. Their player development was postponed by a year (Vaughn, Madrigal, Robert, Kopech, and Crochet). Grandal and Keuchel hamstrings the team for 2/3 more years, including this offseason when they had to give up a solid prospect to acquire Lynn, go cheap again in RF, and spend the rest placating Tony with Hendriks, another luxury (top contracts to a C and RP on a mid-level payroll team).

Keuchel was a need, but perhaps not the best use of such a high and lengthy payroll commitment. Feel they thought he wouldn't vest but if he did, that meant White Sox playoff success. Parrot made no sense at $13M, and Grandal didn't either after McCann's 2019 season and several holes including additional SP and a RF than went (and continue to go) unfilled. They could have also used the $50M burnt on Castillo ($15M), Herrera ($18M), and Alonso ($16M) wasted during "tanking".

If Dunning doesn't get traded, they likely sign someone like Quintana around that price range. Then with Kopech from injury and Rodon re-signed, he gets buried even further on the depth chart. Probably made sense to trade him when they did unless you think they should have trade one of Kopech or Cease in a package deal with a position player prospect and lesser/farther away pitching prospect for someone with more control.

Agree with this. Woudln't trade Kopech, Cease would be on the table depending on the returning pieces, though you would have not gotten his true value, IMO, based on his to date past performance and underselling him.

Of the six major acquisitions the past two off-seasons (Grandal, Keuchel, Hendriks for four years, Lynn, Parrot and Eaton for one), thought Lynn was by far the best acquisition in terms of cost, term of deal, need and level of production. The trade would have made more sense at the 2020 deadline, to get two playoffs. But based on reports, they couldn't make it work (no prospects were publicly identified in those talks).

I always considered Lynn the #2 this year, have no idea why Tony put Keuchel #2 beyond "seniority", satisfying Keuchel's ego, and not wanting Dallas to leak shit to the media, as is his MO.
