The league was throwing Vaughn first pitch down the dick over and over after seeing how he'd always take first pitch. He needed to adjust. Yaz has earned a lot of respect around the league so no one is going to lay one in their first pitch. Vaughn has now. He needs to get more aggressive early in the zone.
