What do I care about Ruiz, Burr, and frankly, Heuer, based on their performance right now? All 3 can be sent down right? Lopez can’t be worse than them, because the worst he could be is awful and the

Collins going down the Narvaez path and becoming one of the best framers in baseball after leaving would be hilarious.

Wasn’t Flowers a poor framer with us too?  Just feels like fate that Collins leaves and suddenly becomes a great framer or they go to robot umps and that part of his game doesn’t matter.

No one wanted him the last two off seasons

A lot of posters here wanted to see him get his shot. Well now he had his shot.

but he's bad at blocking and throwing also

I think it's at least arrow up on Collins' bat this season. A rebuilding team *might* think they can improve him defensively or just wait it out until there's an automated zone. But he doesn't have a fit on a contender at all.

I think I just explained that play to someone on Twitter since the unps wouldn’t do it. God that has to be awful in the park. “Here’s a 10 minute discussion. Zack Collins is hitting. You get nothing more and like it.”

Where the F*** did Lopez pull that pitch out of?

The Sox still have to endure the bumslayer rep

I think Flowers is a different situation because framing wasn't in the public consciousness while he was here. I remember Flowers saying he became aware of catcher framing while watching MLB network! It's not something the Sox were working on with him at all! With Collins it's been something they've tried to improve upon with him since he entered the org and he's still unplayable back there.

Blocking I agree with, but weren’t his throwing numbers pretty good in the minors?

Lopez vs Avi is a fun match up of guys a lot of us used to focus on, in terms of performance, more than the outcome of the game.

That's as unimpressive as I've seen Burnes in a long time

Yup, he wasn't sharp at all.

98 for Lopez...like how quick his wind up is.

Reylo hitting 98.

The ump's call has finality when he signifies a run has been scored, unlike a call at one of the other bases.  A safe call at home, the runner heads into the dugout.

Uh, what?

Reynaldo Lopez might be a good option for Closer come playoff time if Hendriks goes down.

6-2 Tampa in top of 9th

Lopez looks great as a reliever so far.

Someone smack me as hard as you can because I just thought that Reynaldo looks like an awesome reliever.

Wow! I never thought that Rey Lo is the best thing that happened tonight!

me too....the quick thought of "don't trade him" popped into my head.  It scared me.

Wait until you put him in a close game and he throws some hanging sliders.

All relievers are failed starters, but most of them aren't effective enough at starting to even make the bigs. Maybe there's something redeemable with Lopez. Him hitting 98 is very interesting...

but probably not.

There are some plays that end when the ump makes a signal because the player will respond to the signal. That is what he means by “finality.” If the signal says “you have scored”, the right move for the player is to get out of the way and off the field, not to retag the plate. This is fundamentally different from slipping off the base at 2nd or 3rd.
