The SD owners said they would leave no stone unturned.

Oh to be blessed with ownership like that on the Southside..

What does trading for a guy for going to pay 500,000 have anything to do with ownership

The Pirates had to pay money to get this deal. They must really like Marcano.

Due to no minor league season last year, any not up to the minute prospect ranking could be really out of date.

True the 2 other guys are in the low minors with really good numbers.

Yup, and this Marcano kid has put up some really interesting numbers at AAA as a 21 year old after skipping AA.  My guess is he’s gained some real value since the pre-season rankings.

The Mariners seem like the only other team looking hard for a 2B and it sounds like they’d like a controllable guy.  If they land Merrifield, then Escobar’s market should be pretty limited and a trade could happen quickly.

Fuck the Padres.

He’s already seen time in the majors this year…can play nearly every position, but the Padres are now looking for more reliable offense with both Kim and Profar scuffling, and Hosmer has had a disappointing year as well.  Marcano was basically blocked across the board but was brought up when there were a ton of injuries.

Padres still retain all their top pitching prospects, Abrams (hurt) and Campusano, a highly regarded catcher who also saw early big league playing time but wasn’t ready offensively.

With Nola back and Frazier added, they’re going to go after LAD and SFG to avoid the play in.  Very weak schedule the last two months, I think the easiest of all the contenders.

Damn Frazier was perfect fit for White Sox, Hahn slept on this one

The Sox don’t have the same type of intriguing prospects that the Padres do. The Sox couldn’t have matched their offer.

What’s really interesting is they don’t desperately need Frazier.  Seems he will split time mostly with Myers.

With Nola back (if he hits like 2020) at catcher, then the weakest members of the offense are Hosmer (100) and Myers (116)…everyone else is a 125+ wrc hitter.

They just weren’t getting enough from Kim and Profar as their superutility guys, although Kim has been Gold Glove level defensively.

OF Grisham, Pham, Myers, Frazier, Profar

IF Machado, Tatis, Cronenworth, Hosmer, Frazier, Kim, Profar

Nola/Caratini

I guess they also want to improve the speed/athleticism over Myers in RF in the late innings.  They have a burner in Mateo who was their last guy off the bench, great speed/no hit.

Biggest weakness continues to be injuries, back end of the rotation and the bullpen in front of Melancon.

People patting preller on the back for having to trade for Frazier to get his mega signing Hosmer out of the lineup lol

Frazier is playing everyday and croenworth is moving to 1st base. They didn't trade for Frazier for him to be a utility man.

It would only be fitting for us to lose to the Padres in the world series for the next 3 years. God i hate them

Well, that’s pretty ballsy to bench Eric Hosmer with his massive contract and playoff experience for someone who’s more or less a utility hitter and certainly not someone capable of hitting 25-35 homers at 1B.

How is Frazier a utility hitter and Hosmer good? Lol

Hosmer has 8 home runs. He's not capable of hitting 25-35 homers. He's complete trash.

That’s exactly how you describe a mid 700’s OPS guy who can play five positions who grades out the best at 2B and LF.  A player outhitting his career averages that modt of the board has been afraid to acquire due to regression, league change and the prospect cost to Sox with control in 2022.

LOL.

If Whit Merrifield had an 845 OPS right now, he suddenly would be a 1B?

At any rate, the SD Union Tribune disagrees with you.

It is not entirely clear how Frazier will figure into a lineup that has All-Star second baseman Jake Cronenworth, who is batting .278 with a .352 OBP, and left fielder Tommy Pham, who is batting .260 with a .373 OBP.

What the Padres plan to do is use almost everyone almost everywhere. They will likely employ a different lineup every night, using players at different positions even more than they do now.

Frazier has played 708 innings in left field, 230 innings in right field and 63 innings in center field in his career. All the Padres outfielders can play multiple spots.

Cronenworth has started 12 games at first base. In fact, he played there in the All-Star Game, which means at some point this season the Padres will almost certainly have an all-All-Star infield with Manny Machado at third, Fernando Tatis Jr. at shortstop, Frazier at second and Cronenworth at first.

It is also possible they will trade away one or more players on their major league roster.

The Padres, who are in third place in the National League West after Sunday’s 9-3 loss to the Marlins, are still seeking at least one starting pitcher.

Welp, the White Sox don't have the minor league ammunition to top excellent systems like the Rays/Padres. It's very very unfortunate, but true.

Just gotta hope the chips fall pleaseantly on us. Hate feeling like we get sloppy seconds or have to overpay constantly.

I'm surprised you didn't find something to be offended about in his post. You're good at that.
