The only thing that they are realistically playing for is whom would host a game 5 vs. Houston.  I'm totally good with resting players and lining up starters for post season

10/1: Houston wrapped up the AL West last night, and one more win by Houston or loss by the Sox will lock Houston in as the #2 seed, with Tampa Bay already having clinched the #1 seed. New Y

Yes. If the choice is a skeleton crew with homefield vs. a full roster without, I'd take the extra road game every time.

Mariners score 2 in the first on Astros. Should have been more, but Kelenic did his Andrew Vaughn impression.

He's obviously still extremely young, but god damn has he been bad.

Sox should increase they lead to 16 games by next Thursday, that way they can clinch the AL Central at home before going on a long road trip.  Just do it please!

M's win 8-5.

This is not a drill: we can tie Houston for the 2nd seed and hit a season high 23 over .500.  All we need is Dallas to not shit the bed, ONE TIME.

Magic number is 14.

Is this some obscure reference to the Magic the Gathering card game or something? I don’t get it.

Kansas City’s poor play and Minnesota’s winning vs. Cleveland has now brought parity in the race to be eliminated first. Detroit still has an outside chance.

  • 1. Kansas City 6
  • 1. Minnesota 6
  • 3. Detroit 8
  • 4. Cleveland 14

The road series in Texas, Detroit and Cleveland is the likely clinch location, with the home series against Anaheim a possibility.

For the top two AL Playoff seeds:

  1. Tampa Bay 16 (White Sox 30)
  2. Houston 23 (White Sox 25)

9/9:

Magic number = 14

Magic number to eliminate both Minnesota and Kansas City is 6. Either could be eliminated as early as Sunday.

Sox still 1 behind Houston for the #2 seed.

We have a new leader in the Wild Card race. Boston has jumped 0.5 game ahead of New York. Toronto 1.5 out of the 2nd spot, Seattle 2.5 out and Oakland 3 out.

Over in the National League, the Giants are  in front of the Dodgers by 2. San Diego now 1 up on Cincinnati for the 2nd WC spot with Philly 3 back and St. Louis  3.5 back. Philly also within 3 of Atlanta for the division lead.
