Wow, pretty shocked it wasn't a 3rd catcher.

I don't think Collins is eligible for a few more days.  I bet Collins comes back for Mendick whenever he can.

Rutherford is the obvious and clear choice to get the boot.

Figure they at least try to trade Adolfo and Mercedes in the off-season, get a lottery ticket out of them.

Wright has value to this team as a body in September as they deal with injuries (Gio, Lynn) and give guys rest to figure it out (Keuchel).

Let's also point out that this is yet another late round pick (18th round, 2018) that just made the majors.

I like this because it gives you a chance to look at another body for a month here on possible 2022 replacements for Leury (Free Agent), Mendick (sucks), and even Cesar Hernandez who's been a bit of a disappointment with the bat.

yeah, hasn't Romy played like 7 positions in the minors? They definitely should get an advanced look at him here...and it's worth saving Tim and Yoan some mileage. Cesar is an interesting case...because that option is only 6 mil, they could always pick it up and trade it to a team looking for a stopgap solution. But I assume Romy would have to be LIGHTS out for any consideration of moving or not picking up Cesar.

This is one of those amazing 2020 got wiped out and we have no idea what minors talent really progressed stories. I bet every team across the league has one of these out of nowhere types that is lighting it up.

If Cesar continues 2020 as he has in 2020, you will not be able to trade him.  6 million isn't some great steal for an aging .704 OPS hitter

Yeah I was thinking they could decline that option and re-sign cheaper later if they wanted to.

Out of the 2018 draft the Sox have had major league debuts from their 1st, 5th, 6th, and  (and soon to be) 18th round picks.

I believe the 3rd catcher will arrive in Oakland, when Collins is eligible to return to the Sox.

Man, this is great.  He has had a great year and absolutely earned this.  I hope he kills it!

Also worth noting is that the Sox will now need 2 40 man roster moves if Billy Hamilton is indeed the other person being added today.

Yermin Instagram post incoming.

Hamilton is on the 10 day IL not the 60 so they would not need a 40 man spot for him.

Correct.  We do still have Marshall lurking on the 60, but not Hamilton.

Thinking out loud, I wonder if they transfer Stiever to the MLB injured list and add him to the 60.

Shredded body checks the final box on my list.

Posting those numbers in Birmingham is quite impressive

He does strike out quite a bit, so it will be interesting to see if he can keep that in line and not have it grow (30% krate), but he'll have a pal in seby there.

Man this is awesome.

Happy for Romy. He had to be added to the 40 man anyway. Personally, I’d ditch Wright, DL Giolito and bring up Lambert, but that’s just me.

Romy’s like the last guy we have from the 2018 draft class, so I hope he earns a spot for next year.

It's the first box on mine. Get your priorities straight.

Wow, they are really hyping him up. Like, almost Luis Robert-esque. Great defender, great power, athletic, speed, even has positional versatility. Sounds like Leury has some competition.

Does strike out but also has hit for power and taken some walks in the minors.

I rather have him than leury out there even if it is 30%k and 7% walks because at least there is power.

Wow, he deserves it.

I'm surprised as hell it's not Zack Collins or another pitcher given Lucas' injury last night.
