Those two “years” were comprised of 36 total innings and he actually was very good in the 2nd half of 2020.  There was zero reason to expect him to regress when he literally put up a 100th percentile xwOBA prior to the acquisition and was probably reliever in baseball with a HoF track record.  I agree Hahn overpaid, but can’t fault him for Kimbrel’s absolute collapse since coming over here.

Other than Cincy, not many potent offenses in the NL Central.

Now Leury just got himself another $1-2 million for 2022, haha.

Safe by a mile

That bat almost killed Leury and Correa.

So do they use Kimbrel in the 9th now?

Yes, Liam is ready. 5 run lead. Kimbrel is much better with a clean situation, no runners on.

Plus Sox can still score more with Tim at the plate.

Took him out mid AB and then put in a guy who only threw fastballs to Leury. Leury can hit fastballs he can't hit breaking pitches.

I had 5 minutes where in 3 straight posts I said "Leury's going to make this a 6-5 game" followed by "This is a move that is so bad it deserves to backfire on Baker" and then exactly that happened. I'm rather proud of my work in this game thread.

Not even close

Leave Kimbrel in but is he even aware?

Bizarro game

safe

I wanted him swinging out of his ass

Dusty's gloves keep cracking me up

Safe!

Take it out to right Tim.

Ok, I was wrong, Voodoo Cane Guy can in fact help Hernandez.

Timmy should crush this guy

I'd probably save him, but AJ's probably right here that you go ahead and just use Hendriks and be done with it.

I feel ya, but get a six run lead here and I think we can all agree to give Kimbrel the 9th ?

Agree to disagree. He was in a no pressure situation earlier this year and in the offseason the Cubs would have given him away cheap.

I wish I was wrong about it and still hope that he can find his groove for 10 more innings or so.

I don't care how many runs the Sox score. I do not think they should leave Kimbrel in. I'd rather Ruiz pitch.

Sox/Cubs trades seem to be one sided.  Sosa, Garland, Quintana, Kimbrel trades all were one sided.  Probably others, too.

That 1-1 pitch was the one to drive.

A couple more hits here, you can warm up Ruiz.

How was closing for the Cubs the first three months when they were in contention a no pressure situation?
