March 1, 20224 yr It's going to take a long time for these two sides to come to an agreement with how far apart they are on big issues.

I agree with this 100%. This is a good point.

Who knows when they'll actually get together again and negotiate. Question is, will the league cancel games in blocks of one week or just cancel games until May 1st? They will state a block - but really it is just a game of chicken to see how hard the players are. If the players stonewall - at some point we will see both sides come back to the table and we'll see a bigger move to the middle. This is the unfortunate reality given how contentious the two sides were, most notably the fact the owners have a split faction so it is really the players having to negotiate with two distinct factions. If it weren't for the small market teams - I am sure a deal would have been done a while ago - but those teams have power and have clearly dug in (probably because they are very profitable and have more razor thin margins so when you make this moves it is probably a situation where you are literally taking their bottom line from them). Say the small market team pulled in $30M of net income - you make a change that reduces it by $10M - you just cut their net bottom line by 1/3rd (which hurts - so the top line # may be small - but the bottom line impact is felt more significantly).
March 1, 20224 yr This is the next step - the players are going to paint the owners into a big corner - but meanwhile play tough internally and wait until the owners come back with a new proposal. That will be the next olive branch that happens - the only question is whether it happens again later tonight (after they cancel a block of regular season games or if they will have a more current counter). My guess (probably wrong is) owners will cancel, wait to see how players react...when players go silent and continue the charge on owners ruining game - we will see owners try to make an effort when they see how serious the players are (and I do believe the players are serious).
March 1, 20224 yr So, when they cancel games, does that mean everyone else doesn't get paid? Coaches, training staff, stadium staff, t.v. analysts. What about those t.v deals with the RSNs who now have to fill their channels with some other content that won't get nearly as many viewers. Like...what happens with all this?

I too believe the players are serious. I don't see the owners coming back any time soon, not for at least a month. This might be a very long standoff.

Coaches & trainers are probably on contract, so they probably still get paid? Stadium staff etc are all boned in the meantime. Networks are likely scrambling to fill the programming gaps now. This is the ugly fallout.

In fact, they are already at Spring Training.

Contract staff is fine, salaried staff are fine until they decide to lay people off, seasonal staff are screwed.

They have never actually signed a 9 figure contract. (I know about Wheeler) I don't know for sure that he's in the asshole owner group but I am very suspicious. It's a lazy assumption based on no actual evidence, other than anecdotal connections. If his name was actually out there, or if the Sox status actually fit into the group of owners that is supposed to be leading this charge, that is one thing, but until then, eh.

March 1, 20224 yr Author Honestly, if we are going to lose games, I hope the players pull up stakes and move back to a deal which really benefits them. Might as well make this lockout worth it.
March 1, 20224 yr i dont know why anyone would want to spend their money on MLB anymore. Stop buying their crap, stop going to their overpriced games, stop buying their $8 bottles of water. Let them know who is really in charge
