  • Yes. Sox would forfeit like the 65th pick, the bonus pool amount associated and $500K in international space. They should be willing to do it though.  This offseason hasn't been a good one for

I actually think an opt out after 2 years can benefit the Sox. But in the scenario where he turns into Adam Dunn (not saying that's likely), you're stuck with him for 5 years.

I give an opt out after two.  Maybe the 5th year a mutual option or some sweetener for the Sox end?  IDK.  He had one down year, he is 29 and hasn't been trending downward the way Dunn was or guys in 32/33ish do.  $22M AAV just isn't the albatross contract some make it seem.

Oh shit did the new CBA eliminate the DH for all leagues?

Jim isn't perfect, but he does have a strong historical understanding of the organization and it's players and is a good reference for White Sox history imo. He also doesn't pretend to have knowledge or ideas on potential trades or inside info. Nelson on the other hand... he has been portraying himself as that kind of person in the last year and it's just not a good look on him. He's that drunk guy at games yelling behind you things that leave you wondering if it was their first baseball game ever, or if they've ever even picked up a bat before.

I can respect Jim.   I will just stop there.

I tried listening to his pod once or twice, it was shockingly stupid for a guy that spends so much time covering the team and making it a public persona. But, the same is true of his boss Jim.

Also, and maybe I'm just not in with the times.... but how can someone have a podcast about the White Sox 5 days a week 52 weeks a year? What can you talk about for an hour a day for the many weeks of year baseball isn't being played? Also, how big of an audience can there honestly be for that? I'm not a big podcast guy in general, but just don't understand that draw there.

he wouldn't be in AAA.

Odd take, but yes, I would like an actually decent MLB RF playing on a team that is competing for a title this yar.

So would I.  Where is Schwarber, Soler, etc.

Those guys are worth $.

We gonna get Leury everyday in RF so I hope you all are ready.

You and I are on the same page on this one.  I have no idea what people get out of following him.

Same.

Yes he would.  He is not going to platoon at DH so he will have to be traded or in AAA.  If he is on the roster that is another wasted developmental year for him.

I’d be pretty surprised if Michael Conforto hit $100 million from anyone at this point.

There are still plenty of ABs for Andrew Vaughn, even with a real RF, especially once the inevitable injuries start happening.

Based on things you’ve heard, or based on your gut feeling because he’s still unsigned at this point?

I am not ready, which is why I want Conforto.

What the bloody hell has Sheets done to deserve a roster spot over Vaughn?

Conforto is an actual major league caliber RF.  Neither Vaughn or Sheets are.  Sheets isn't even passable as a major league 1B, his supposed natural position.  I get that you don't like Conforto, but that limb you are walking further out onto is mighty shaky.

I think his biggest problem is finding a team give him a 4th year, so yes.

Lmao.  No there are not.  Unless you are banking on serious injuries early there are almost none to be had.

His opting out in 2 years might not even be the worst thing.  I am kind of surprised after Albert Belle and Frank Thomas turning into wins with those opt outs, that JR is so against them.

There are ABs to be had in 1B/LF/RF/DH to get him 4 to 5 starts a week while keeping the other guys fresh.  Top teams do this all of the time with their benches.

Bc Vaughn doesn't need to sit on the bench and waste developmental years.  He needs to play everyday.  If he has a spot on the roster Vaughn would sit 5 days a week or more.  That's not how you develop the your star players

0 at 1B.

0 at LF

And RF/DH would be platoons and he can only platoon at one

Nope. Sox aren’t sitting AV on the bench 5 days a week to play Gavin everyday. Sorry.

I would think the FO would want him to opt out and would see the back end as a minimal risk.  If they don't want go there on years I get that, but chances are its a 2 year deal anyway.  Refusing to do that is just ass backwards IMO.  If Colas hits in 2 years, you worry about that then while you are winning in the meantime.

Technically both of those guys should sit once a week and DH once a week, for health and age reasons. But you’re right at 1b it won’t happen because of Abreu. I could be cynical and suggest that the manager could screw up resting the LF too, but we will see.

You didn't answer the question.  You just assumed Vaughn wouldn't play, which is wildly inaccurate.

1 start a week at each of those positions is 4 starts a week when there are typically 6 games a week.  Get him 2 DH starts, and a 1B/LF/RF start a week, and that is five starts a week.   Slot him in around lefties and opportunistic righties, and you have a pretty easy path to 400 to 500 ABs.  There is nothing wrong with getting guys like Abreu and Eloy some days off too.  Conforto can rest against lefties easily.  We currently don't have a real DH.

Again, if you follow teams like the Dodgers, Rays or Yankees, they do this all of the time.
