The official thread of unbridled second half optimism

Are we the Mariners or Rockies now?

  • The Sox are two back
  • Lucas and Lynn should see their numbers improve as they are pitching way below their expected FIP.
  • Mike Matheny and the Kansas City Royals are in town.
  • Tony and Jerry are one day closer to enjoying a long and relaxing retirement. :D

They win 60-70% of their remaining division games...they win the division. It's that simple.

They’ve played about as badly as can be imagined, and they’re only 2 games back in the division and 2.5 out of the wild card.

TLR was napping for the first 100 games. “It’s go time.”

First place by Sunday evening.

I think they stay 2 games out until the last series of the year...Sweep the Twins and win the division.

Following up a bad first half with a really good second half and making a deep playoff run is…not really all that weird.  Sure, nothing about their play for the first half has indicated that they will go on a run…but that’s true of every underachieving first half team.  I predicted a shitty first half and big second and I’m sticking to it.

Fangraphs projects the Sox to win 84 games and has them as the favorites to win the ALC. Given the upcoming schedules for the contenders in the Central, I expect the Sox will be in 1st place 2 weeks from now, if not sooner.

Keep Eloy, Robert, and Juan on the field...the results will take care of themselves.

I was thinking Soto, in keeping with the thread theme.

Juan Pierre. Travelling back in time.

It's amazing that the basically the entire team could regress for almost 2/3rds of the season and they're 2 games out of the division. Minnesota could have ran away and hid by now but they didn't. Sox need to make them pay.

2nd half rebounds from Eloy, Moncada, Pollock ,and Grandal. Add a few LH pieces on the pitching staff and in the lineup among others, Santander, Wendle, Happ, Gallo, Colas, Matt Moore, Quintana, Martin Perez, Andrew Chafin, Joe Mantiply, Gregory Soto, Steven Okert. Lynn gets better the more he pitches.

Poop.

The AL Central being absolute trash is our saving grace. All we have to do is get healthy for a minute.  We get healthy and hot in October we can win.

They're probably gonna get smashed in the first round if they do but I'll take a chance with Cease starting twice in a short series.

It’d be great to have one of those 6-8 week stretches where everything TA hits finds the OF grass.

Cease in the 2022 playoffs is such a different proposition than he was the prior two years.

From throwing 2/3rds of an inning to hopefully throwing 7 solid shutout.

I would love a six to eight week stretch where almost all of our players hit the grass on a daily basis.
