December 19, 20223 yr Ridding the team of Leury and bringing in a serviceable (albeit expensive) catcher sure would be nice. I just don't see how that would benefit the Mets, especially if they were to throw in Escobar. So, I don't think there's any validity to the "rumor". Hopefully the Sox do pick up a 2B that would be the every day starter. Leury should, and hopefully would, become a seldom used waste of roster space. With Leury's #1 fan in TLR gone, he shouldn't see much playing time.

Obviously you have to weigh his addition vs. filling needs elsewhere, but I don’t think 4th OF is a spot we should overlook.

I don't know what their budget limit is, but right now I've got them about $5 million below where they were for last season, if I'm counting buyouts the same way they are. Last year, they wound up about $14 million below the tax line. There is some funkiness with how it's calculated for a few people, but there is some risk that they could be near the line if they added >$20 million.

Quote While the early offseason saw many of the top free agents soaring past their predictions, it hasn’t exactly carried down to the lower tiers. Looking at the other bats mentioned off the top, Brantley re-signed with the Astros for one year and $12MM, a bit below MLBTR’s $15MM prediction, though he can come out ahead via $4MM of incentives. Martinez was projected at two years and $30MM but settled for $10MM over a single season with the Dodgers.

No way the Sox are adding that much payroll. If we aren’t capped out already, I bet we’re awfully close. I’d say we have $10M max to work with and that’s likely being generous. Only way to add Conforto or Segura is by trading a piece like Hendriks or Giolito.

No room for Conforto as they won't block Colas.

There’s 486 starts available in the OF plus all the games Eloy has to miss at DH. 130 starts per OF shouldn’t be a problem considering the propensity of Robert and Eloy towards being unavailable
