This injury also likely moves everyone back a spot in the bullpen, meaning Kendall Graveman is back to being the closer for now. Banks will likely fill in as a long reliever/lefty specialist role. Elbow inflammation is certainly something to be concerned about, especially for Hendriks, who has pitched with a partial tear in his UCL since 2008. However, Hendriks has downplayed any concerns over this in the past, and we are likely going to hear much of the same again the next time he speaks to the media.

Hope he’s ok, but really feels everyone involved rushed his return

It’s almost impressive how they seem to both rush guys back, but also play guys injured.

Naah.  Not this organization.

He missed time last year with the same issue. Hopefully nothing got worse and it just needs time to calm down. But I kind of doubt iit.

Yea, I also was surprised to see him thrown into games so fast . his body had to be still adjusting.

Yaz noticed something was off after a pitch during his last outing, but Liam motioned for him to throw the ball back. Hopefully it’s just “spring training” soreness.

Remember he missed three weeks last year with the same issue and because, as he's stated, he's been pitching with a torn UCL sine 2008, his elbow has been battling the increased inflammation off and on since then.

Ultimately this hurts his potential trade value at the deadline.

His velocity is down.  Also wondering if the treatment that he went through took a toll on his body.  I do remember that Andrew Miller had the same chronic UCL tear and was fine.  This is unknown territory though.  Especially with how he is post treatment.  His return from cancer was much quicker than most expected but there are so many questions.  I think he'll probably be ok but in this case I understand why the Sox brought him back when they did and there is just so much that we don't understand about Liam's road back.

Wonder besides Graveman, if they should try to give Santos some save opportunities here coming up.

Throws 102 mph

Makes MLB’s best hitter look silly

Sox have control over Santos here for awhile.

Gives the Sox more options going forward into next year if he has success there. If not then he becomes a 7th or 8th inning setup guy like he is today, almost. Plus, if this season implodes before the deadline, then Santos’s success in closer role maybe let’s the Sox try trade deals for Graveman, Hendriks, Middleton, and/or Kelly. Just a thought…

I think in case they 100% put the ball in his court.  Hopingbthis allows for a management program to build up.

Once again it's the selfish and ignorant Rick Hahn with his stupid front office, that evidently calculated a poorly designed rehab plan to bring back Liam healthy and productive. Once again the genius Rick Hahn made a huge blunder in being too aggressive and quick in the time-frame recovery.

No wonder he did not come in to close the 1-0 game yesterday.

Apparently nobody noticed his velocity was down almost 3-5 MPH on average... or just thought he was still ramping up from inactivity/leukemia.

Had to have seen this one coming a mile away.

Joins Benintendi and Lynn on the unmovable (without sending money back the other way) contracts list...unfortunately.

They planned for this with the ten years of deferred payments.

Jerry is like “If I die, someone else pays.” Same with the backloaded Benintendi deals which handcuff a future FO.

If I’m Jerry, I’d command Hahn to throw in what needs to go to the Dodgers to have them eat Benintendi, Moncada, Jimenez deals in their entirety. Give Hahn a $50M-$60M annual player budget, collect MLB $100M + TV and Welfare checks every year and pocket the difference.

There is absolutely zero difference in on field results, whether Rick Hahn is tanking or trying. Give a new owner and FO a clean slate to build a legitimate MLB franchise for the first time since Larry Himes was shitcanned for the first of three Jerry Lackeys.

Stage four usually comes back.

Hahn believes or at least hopes it is the same issue as last season. He’s getting an MRI tomorrow. Liam was all over it last year. Now it’s crickets. That has me a bit worried.

This recent stretch for 2-3 weeks might have gotten Hahn out of the headlight for a period of time (and all the positive vibes about Liam returning from cancer)...but the schedule for the next 2-3 weeks is going to quickly remind them they're a 14-18 games under .500 when all is said and done.

Especially if they have ANY problem in the starting rotation and/or trade away Gio, Lynn, Clevinger, Kopech, etc.

Then you've got a mini-controversy brewing with Tim Anderson, again.

Looks like there may be a second opinion involved, or a single one was postponed until tomorrow.

will undergo further evaluation before the team provides an update on his status Tuesday, Rob Schaefer of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Regardless of injury status, Liam Hendriks will not be made available this trade deadline reports Bob Nightingale.

The Chicago White Sox may have plenty of trade chips at the deadline if they’re out of the race, including shortstop Tim Anderson, starter Lucas Giolito and relievers Kendall Graveman and Joe Kelly, but plan to retain closer Liam Hendriks. He’s not only a fan favorite, but a personal favorite of owner Jerry Reinsdorf.

Sucks for Liam and everything he’s been through…but damn was it a gigantic mistake to not capitalize on his trade value last year.

Another case where the owner thinks he knows better than the front office he hired and is tying their hands.

The jokes write themselves.
