Craig Counsell

Time for Getz to put on his big boy pants and go get Counsell. We know he loves former players.

Craig Counsell signed what would be the 11th largest free agent contract the White Sox have ever given out. As a GM. We are not a serious franchise.

Nope.

He's going to the Cubs.

Shoot.  I'll take David Ross over Grifol.

And the Sox won’t fire Grifol. Make it make sense.

If Getz wanted to whip his sack on the table at the gm meetings, he would have fired Grifol and hired Counsell.

Wow - great move by the Cubs. I also would be perfectly fine relocating another manager from the Northside to Southside.

I would have rather given Vogt a shot too.

I think he’s going to be a good manager. He’s in the perfect spot.

Cubs getting ready to spend a fortune this offseason.

Yep most likely.

I think so too. Great personality and former MLB catcher.

Now we know why Counsell tried to intentionally lose against the Cubs during the last series of the season :)

Credible managers will not come here.

Rick Renteria is the best Sox fans can hope for.

I’d rake David Caruso over Grifol.

Very true. This is just opening old wounds from times they should have launched or gone with better managers when they were available.

Counsell coming here makes no sense for Counsell (unless they are significantly overpaying).

Its the Joe Maddon move 2.0

I bet Ross moves up to the front office.

They could have had almost anyone they wanted when JR picked LaRussa. Now they are back to what they always will be with JR here, the redheaded stepchild of Chicago. They are the Angels without Ohtani or Trout.

What chance in hell would there have been that Counsell would have picked the Sox over the Cubs?

I disagree.  I think any manager worth anything would have had Reinsdorf and Hahn/Williams numbers blocked.  LaRussa was their ceiling.  Turns out they would have been better off with Renteria.

This was just a reactionary post. Of course he would never pick the Cubs over the Sox.

I'd take Ross over Pedro. Of course, I'd take my high school coach over Pedro, and he has to be pushing 85.

Can anyone imagine Jerry paying $40 million over 5 years for a manager?

It really can't be understated how badly they botched everything.

$8 mil was the number Counsell was going for. Good for him to get it.  Stays in the Midwest, too.  I'm sure he's thrilled.  Ross probably cost the Cubs 10 games in the standings this year based on run differential, so it's a good hire.  Doesn't affect the Sox in any way, though. They weren't going to hire a new manager anyway.  They have Pedro to build culture by losing 110 games.
