November 6, 20232 yr Time for Getz to put on his big boy pants and go get Counsell. We know he loves former players.
November 6, 20232 yr He might’ve been a scapegoat but the Giants fired Kapler, a winning manager. The Cubs just fired David Ross, a winning manager. The Mets fired Buck Showalter, a winning manager. And the Sox won’t fire Grifol. Make it make sense.
November 6, 20232 yr If Getz wanted to whip his sack on the table at the gm meetings, he would have fired Grifol and hired Counsell. Edited November 6, 20232 yr by Bob Sacamano
November 6, 20232 yr Wow - great move by the Cubs. I also would be perfectly fine relocating another manager from the Northside to Southside.

November 6, 20232 yr Now we know why Counsell tried to intentionally lose against the Cubs during the last series of the season

We went through this during the Renteria years when people were pining for Girardi or Francona or Bochy or Hinsch. Credible managers will not come here. Rick Renteria is the best Sox fans can hope for.

Counsell coming here makes no sense for Counsell (unless they are significantly overpaying).

Now they are back to what they always will be with JR here, the redheaded stepchild of Chicago. They are the Angels without Ohtani or Trout. Edited November 6, 20232 yr by Dick Allen

I think any manager worth anything would have had Reinsdorf and Hahn/Williams numbers blocked. LaRussa was their ceiling. Turns out they would have been better off with Renteria.

November 6, 20232 yr I'd take Ross over Pedro. Of course, I'd take my high school coach over Pedro, and he has to be pushing 85.

It really can't be understated how badly they botched everything.
November 6, 20232 yr $8 mil was the number Counsell was going for. Good for him to get it. Stays in the Midwest, too. I'm sure he's thrilled. Ross probably cost the Cubs 10 games in the standings this year based on run differential, so it's a good hire. Doesn't affect the Sox in any way, though. They weren't going to hire a new manager anyway. They have Pedro to build culture by losing 110 games.
