So are we at a point where the teams going after Cease have made their offers and Getz and his staff our deciding what if any of the offers to take?

This is going to be a long process unless Getz gets an offer he can't refuse.

I've read a number of times that Cease would be willing to sign a long term contract with the White Sox. Why not just sign him?

JR doesn't do long term contracts with pitchers and Boras is his agent . So I don't know what you read and when you read it but that's not happening.

The Sox have signed their own to deals. Guys like buerhle and danks. Up to 4 or 5 years.

It's smarter practice as they know all of injury history and the person.

Boras is a complicating factor though.

It's still not happening regardless of any ancient signing of the past.

The team currently lacks talent and Cease is in demand . Trading him to multiply the talent base for future teams is a needed step.

What does resigning him accomplish ?

If jR is going to keep doing what he always does it makes no sense to have guys on the Sox making $25M+ per year if it prevent signing other guys. Hell the Sox couldn't finish off a rebuild because they were paying relief pitchers good salaries while their core layers were constantly injured and couldn't put multiple years of consistent high quality performances together . They didn't build any depth, couldn't draft or develop talent , and had no superstars and weren't willing to pay for any.

No one can imagine JR paying like the Phillies do or finishing off rebuilds with high priced free agents like the Astros and Cubs did.

He laughed at the idea of signing the most unique and marketable player the sport has seen in almost a century.

I agree they should trade him. With the Boras factor, I wouldn't take a chance on not signing him.

My point was that JR has shown loyalty, I know it's a dirty word here, to their own players, including pitchers.

Loyal, cheap deals at that.

Bruce Levine has said the White Sox are going to trade for pitching and defense this off season. If that's true why trade Cease the teams best pitcher? Getz should approach Cease and try to extend him and go on from there.

He let Buehrle go. He let Abreu go. He is not loyal at all until they enter management

Short answer: No...he shouldn't.

Get the best possible deal you can for him because this team is going to be an unmitigated disaster on and off the field for the next two years or until new ownership arrives.

Can anyone really imagine JR rewarding Robert with a massive extension if he can continue to improve upon his 2023 performance?

Both danks and buerhle received fair market deals.

I think Moncada, jimenez and Robert got deals that were fair to buy out fa years.

After signing one extension. Buerhle left going into the second extension.

What makes people truly think the next owner will be drastically different?

How many potential owners are out there that will just spend the team deep into the red for a team that is second string to the Cubs in a town where baseball will always be second th football?

Football and baseball barely overlap, so not sure why that matters at all.

And good owners invest in their product and give their consumers a reason for consuming it.  Jerry refuses to do any of that and then has minions blame the fans for not being able to spend a dollar when you only have 50 cents.  It’s hard to imagine any replacement owner could be worse than Jerry and the Sox are a potential sleeping giant with the right person at the very top.

I think this is overly optimistic. Look around the league. Most owners aren't much different.

Football makes a big difference in overall fan interest and investment dollars. The NFL gets year round attention now.

Ugh.....we need to be trading for bats.

I highly doubt he extends with anyone. You don't hire Scott Boras to sign a below market extension

Correct

I'm afraid that Cease and Eloy are going to be traded and  the White Sox get very little in return. If that's the case I think its better to keep them.

I thought @Pal suggested something (not necessarily Cease) was pretty close and might go down before Thanksgiving.

Might being the key word.

Yeah I know but I had my hopes up anyway. I just want to see something meaningful that doesn't involve crap signings just to fill spots.
