Sure. Hope he continues to ball out and flip him at the deadline. Fine with this.

I know they have the open 40-man spot now and can DFA someone before Rule 5 draft but this probably won’t even be official until after the draft, right?

Also, does anyone know what time that draft is?

You never know how these guys will translate, really have to depend on your scouting.

With the White Sox as the most (only?) aggressive suitor, unfortunately I have to believe it's more likely a bad signing. I highly doubt they even got a live look at him.

But whatever, hope I'm wrong.

The Mets were clearly interested in him, that was leaked yesterday along with a dollar amount. The White Sox seemingly had to come back and beat that dollar amount.

It's a sensible gamble, if he has a great first half he's easily moveable, if he's terrible then it's a minor loss, and hopefully he at least becomes a moveable contract by the middle of the year.

Wow. That is a big gurantee for a guy who has never been successful in mlb.  But probably worth the risk.

Yep, and yep!

I think it's worth the risk, too.  Much better than $12 Mill to Marco.

Oh I agree. Just saying, the next time the Sox figure something out that no one else knows in Asia will be the first time

this seems like the work of Bannister, based on his twitter post shared in this thread, more than the 'Sox' generally. I'm optimistic about the move, he seems like a diamond in the rough, and now Bannister's so-called "pitching lab" will be put to the test.

Mets were in at around $10 million and two years.

Still significantly less than Lynn Severino Montas, etc.

At least we are attempting to actually have an approach for the first time since the height of the Don Cooper years at the big league level.

It was a response to me saying add Montas.

Shingo Takatsu and Tadahito Iguchi would like a word.

Oh s%*#…the real Brian Bannister vouching for this move!  I’m all in!

That was almost twenty years ago now...we might as well go back to the Dave Wilder Scandal, because we still don't exactly have a pipeline of Dominican ballplayers.

Well, I mean, ok. I love both of those guys, but, the Sox got one 1WAR season out of Shingo. I'll grant you Iguchi unconditionally.

But the world was a very different place back then.

Hypothetical….bring either him or Manea into the fold to give the rotation some veteran presence

Yes, but... that's faint praise, no?

Ok, this actually makes me feel WAY better about the move.

Yeah, KW scouted Iguchi "personally" with a slew of VHS tapes sent over from Japan in 2004.

40 homers surrendered, practically can guarantee it...although Opening LV Line would probably be around 35-36

Would most likely need another arm to cover 140ish innings after Montas inevitably goes down with an injury

Eder / Bush / Martin / Touki/ scholtens all in there like swimwear to cover down on those innings ?
