White Sox sign Chuckie Robinson to minor league contract

Robinson will now move onto a new opportunity with the White Sox, even if Chicago’s acquisitionof Max Stassi has helped shore up the catching situation.  Stassi and Korey Lee are penciled in as Chicago’s regular catching duo, though Robinson figures to be the top depth option at Triple-A given the lack of big league catching experience in the White Sox farm system.

However, Robinson might also face a playing-time squeeze from Edgar Quero, as the 20-year-old catcher is one of Chicago’s top prospects and is expected to make his Triple-A debut in 2024.

And here’s to you, Chuckie Robinson, Pedro loves you more than you will know.

Woah, woah, woah.

Let the Chuckie Robinson era begin!

Sounds like a power forward from Purdue…

That probably sets the catchers for this team. Stassi and Lee as the starters with Robinson, Perez, and Hackenberg in Charlotte.

Given all the other good players going to other teams it turns your stomach to see the s%*#, flotsam and jetsam the Sox are scraping the bottom of the barrel for.

Yet JR thinks they are going to contend? ?

JR knows the Sox aren't going to contend.  He says they will but knows they won't.  And he doesn't care.

He doesn't care yet gets involved in every bad decision they make. Weird. Seems like if he didn't care he would find something else to do.

Yeah, he doesn't care if the team competes, but he cares about placating TLR and saving money and hiring unqualified people pissing off the fans.

And increasing shareholder value.

The White Sox were once the 8th most valuable franchise in baseball...now they're drifting into the mid teens and will likely end up close to #20-22 if this current malaise continues for the next 2-3 seasons.

Facility issues on the horizon as well.

Hard to see any place where there's a positive trend besides cutting payroll and selling off assets.

That works far better for META to cut overhead than for the White Sox not to reinvest those savings in reinvigorating the entertainment product itself.

There are many here old enough to remember this was a 50/50 Sox/Cubs town. Jerry destroyed both the fanbase and billions in value over the past 43 years.

Minority White Sox shareholders were charged a $2B asshole tax for ceding all control to Jerry.

1981 Franchise values:

  • January 1981:  American League owners force Bill Veeck to sell to Jerry Reinsdorf instead of Edward DeBartolo for $20M.
  • June 1981: The Tribune Company purchases the Chicago Cubs from the Wrigley Family for $20.5M.

March 2023 Forbes Franchise Value estimates:

  • $4.1B Chicago Cubs
  • $2.05B Chicago White Sox

Rickie Lee Jones is from Chicago; you probably knew that.

Whenever I see that someone is from Chicago, I immediately Wiki them to see where they were born or grew up. She's vaguely, 'north side'. I want street addresses and pictures, dammit!!

He's our 5th/6th string catcher. I don't get the negative comments, but yeah should probably improve 1 to 4 on that note.

I think a good portion of the value difference is the ownership of the ballpark and surrounding real estate.

Can you imagine what they could sell that for to a developer?

Could you imagine if Debartolo wasn't rejected  and JR bought the Cubs instead? He'd be out of Wrigley by now.

Yeah, the appreciation might be too tough to resist.
