Not so sure on that.  It’s a matter of money.  I’d probably take Walker’s contract over Benintendi’s just to get out from under it a year earlier.

2027:  $14.5M

Walker (2-years, $36M)

2025:  $18.0M

2026:  $18.0M

JFC Walker was terrible last year (7.12 xERA) and his velocity was also down.  Might be better gambling on Benintendi’s bouncing back that Walker.

This ignores the other option. Cease was back to a >4 WAR pitcher in 2024. His best month of the year was July, and he had a 3.42 ERA at the trade deadline, albeit in San Diego. 

Holding him to the trade deadline should have been an option.

They are probably both sunk costs at this point.  The Sox are bad the next two years with Benintendi or Walker.  I’d take the guarantee of freeing up $14.5 million in 2027.  Maybe the rest of the team will have improved enough in two years that it would be nice to have that money in the offseason?

I don’t necessarily disagree, but adding Walker requires blocking someone like Bush, Burke, Nastrini, Adams, etc. for a half season.  And honestly, I think that is a double negative whereas Benintendi is really not blocking anyone at the moment and worst case blocks one of DeLoach or Fletcher if were to add an OF or DH.

That’s fair, but the Sox didn’t want to take that chance apparently. Also, not sure how the package would change with a rebound year (though still not 2022 level), but with close to 2/3rds of a season less control.

BA just put out the O's top 10. Nothing I didn't know, but bleah. Mayo and Basallo both project as 1b. They're not giving you Kjerstad, but he's 26 and his best position is probably 1b too. Honeycutt and Fabian are highly unlikely to hit enough to get to their other tools. Beavers and Bradfield look like below average regulars/4th outfielders/pinchrunners and Chayce McDermott would be like our 10th ranked pitching prospect. I hope to God Crochet does not go to them.

Wow you mean every single one of these guys won't be very good and on their roster playing different positions? You mean they have a logjam of 1B/DH types and over hyped guys/guys who didn't develop properly? So there's no reinforcements for guys who struggle or leave on their MLB roster?

People here laughed a few months ago when I said the Sox farm system is now better than the Orioles. But Orioles fans insisted Elias was going to maintain the farm system at a high standard even while the mlb team was trying to compete and they were no longer drafting in the top 5 every year lol. With Mayo likely to graduate from prospect status by June, they’ll then have just one T100 MLB prospect.

Quero and Schultz seem very likely to graduate. Montgomery will probably either graduate or will plummet. They will only be drafting 10th, which may or may not give a top 100 prospect. That leaves Smith...who MLB.com also thinks has a decent chance of graduating. 

How many top 100 prospects will the White Sox have after this year? Entirely depends on trades, right?

I still think he ends up on the Phillies.  With the Dodgers being a legit super team, other NL contenders need to go big or go home.  Miller, Crawford, and a solid third piece gets it done.

Yeah, but Miller and Crawford would be two good headlining prospects.  Then deal Bohm to some other team for a couple lesser, but still good, prospects.  Wouldn’t be a bad deal.

If it’s 2 top MLB prospects and Bohm then sure.
