Outside of a good four year stretch in the early 2010s, not really much to show for it, though.

While true, it doesn’t negate the point. The 121 loss White Sox cannot look to the 119 loss Tigers and think they can quickly climb out of the cellar because the owner refuses to operate in any what that would allow that to happen.

Just like last off season. Boring. If the team avoids losing 100, it will be considered a success. When will the Sox become a respectable team? When the club gets serious about acquiring real major league talent. I am not buying into this so-called rebuild. Been through it before. Even if there is success, it doesn't last long.

I don’t think anyone is buying into it except WestEddy

There were people who told us not to be so down on the team in 2024 too.

This team has a chance to be really special. Maybe 122 losses special.

On the subject of this thread, I kind of like this signing.  Gallo has a discernable skill:  he can hit homers.  If he's got 20-25 in July, a team will pay the Sox for that.

The problem is nothing in his last 3-4 years of play would indicate that's going to occur...but it's a White Sox FA signing, anything is possible I guess.

If they didn't tender Vaughn a deal, I would have liked this move more. Plug him into the 5th spot in a platoon role, and see if he can find his home run stroke for half a season.

I actually think Gallo could hit that many homers if given the at bats.

In his last 4 seasons, Gallo has averaged a homer every 15 at bats.

In his most recent 3 seasons, Gallo has averaged a homer every 17 at bats.

If you give Gallo a full season of at bats (around 500 or so) and he stays healthy, he could probably hit around 30 homers.  Of course, the problem is that it will also come with a batting average below the Maldonado Line and a sub-.700 OPS, which ultimately makes his value next to nothing.

There’s also the other problem of why the hell did Joey Gallo get 500 ABs on a rebuilding team?

Good question.  It shouldn’t happen.  But then again, why do we have a starting RF platoon of Tauchman (34) and Slater (32) on a rebuilding team?  Both guys are older than Gallo (31).  Not much has made sense when it comes to Getz’s roster decisions the past couple offseasons.

To flip them at the deadline for reliever prospects that will later be flipped for our boy Cash Considerations.

Sorry, I don’t make the rules.

I was joking…Pizza Man was a good owner

His son has been more penurious...but they were involved in the Bregman negotiations and outbid the Red Sox eventual offer, so that's a big sign they have finally moved past the Javy Baez deal psychologically, and are again willing to absorb more contract risk.
