  • No reason to get worked up minor league NRI guys, but I'm sure plenty of people will.

  • If people think Gallo is washed than I don’t even know what Abreu would be considered.

  • First time in my Sox fandom I have to study the roster, try to read mlb.com to learn who will be playing for us on a regular basis this season. I can't be the only Sox fan who needs a class in Sox 101

As someone mentioned on X, adding Dalbec and Gallo as NRIs is going to put more pressure on Vaughn.  I have a feeling Gallo makes the team and gets some starts at 1B and in the OF against RH pitchers.  I'm not going to expect anything from him, especially based on his stats over the last few years.  But maybe this will light a fire under Vaughn's ass.

With a platoon in RF already and both of those guys, Rojas, and Taylor all on major league deals I cant see where you guys think there’s a roster spot for Gallo to make the team and just get some at bats - unless Vargas is gone and Gallo really is the primary DH.

What if they start Ramos at Charlotte?  Vargas and Gallo platoon at DH while they both get moved to other positions as well.

Run through the position player backups with me.

Backup C
Taylor
Whoever is in the RF platoon not playing

i guess Sosa? Clearly at least 1 backup IF counts. You can’t have 0 backups for those positions.

If Gallo is on the roster, where’s Vargas other than cut? Or is Vaughn cut? Or is Vargas the backup SS and Sosa is in the minors?

If Robert is traded, you still need someone to backup CF while Taylor moves to start, is that Gallo?

I can’t see any version of this that works without cutting Vargas or Vaughn if Gallo makes the team.

An injury to some position player will probably occur and sort this out (hopefully not to Robert).

Or Robert gets dealt sometime in the next month.

I have a feeling Rojas is the backup SS. Not saying that it isn’t a dumb idea but hey, this is the Sox.

Highly underrated post.

I had to unlike it so I could like it again.

So Vargas is the starting 3b, Sosa is the starting 2b, Baldwin/Montgomery are the starting SS, Gallo is the DH, and Rojas is the backup for the full IF?

Yikes, I guess that does actually work with roster spots.

The Sox are going with an "offense-heavy" approach and will carry only seven pitchers.  All will be both starters and relievers.  This will allow the team to carry a back-up player for every offensive position.  This will also allow multiple position players to pitch, as the team will be down by 10+ runs often.

"We're gonna create the next Ohtani right here on the South Side," said Chris Getz.

Ethan Katz added, "I'm excited to teach new guys how to pitch.  It's another challenge that we're not going to back down from."

Jerry Reinsdorf was seen counting money in the background.

I definitely didn't say it was smart haha but on brand.

No combination of the Sox roster could be considered “offense-heavy”.  🤣

I forgot Oscar Coals existed.

Who is the DH?

I don't think they will have a regular DH.

Not exactly sure how lighting a fire under a physically maxed out poor athlete works. Dude got his $6M for sucking in years past, it would take a lot for this org to cut bait at this point sadly.

Did some guys gain weight?

Just like last off season. Boring. If the team avoids losing 100, it will be considered a success. When will the Sox become a respectable team? When the club gets serious about acquiring real major league talent. I am not buying into this so-called rebuild. Been through it before. Even if there is success, it doesn't last long.

Come back in like 5  years then, because it isn't going to be any time soon.

The year is 2028. The White Sox are in year 3 of the rebuild. ZIPS has us for 82 wins. We have a seat at the table with a broken down Machado coming off his 3rd knee scope in three seasons in which he's played 100 games total. ZIPS has him at 1.8 fWAR. Our playoff window is WIDE open and we've got a seat at the table.

1 year 8 million. Print the playoff tickets!

My point is if you bring in a Gallo and some of these other old guys to play for a 105-115 loss team, why not have some of our old faves back? They'd be more popular than these new oldies we acquired. We coulda got Tim Anderson cheap and the folks who don't wanna rush Colson could be happy. We coulda acquired Madrigal for pennies and played him over whomever gets the 2B job. Abreu coulda played 1B over Gatto. And on and on.

Just stop, please.

Nothing will change until the ownership changes, and even that's not a guarantee.

And yet, to baseball purists, every roster combo will be somewhat offensive.

As a long time Sox fan I can't believe you are serious with these ideas.

Anderson is DONE, finished. Plus the fan base has turned against him 9with good reason in my opinion), Jose is DONE he was a disaster in his time with Houston and who knows how old he actually is.

Not saying the stiffs and retreads the Sox have now are any better but there may be a possibility of getting something for them down the line however slight. Anderson and Jose won't get you a bag of balls.

I'm all for reclamation projects this year. That being said, the last thing I want to see this season is Joey Gallo at bats. Chris is talking a lot of "new direction" speak, and then I see the same old crap.

Because you don’t put together a roster just for the purpose of nostalgia, not that I’m sure what in the blue hell Getz’s awful roster building strategy actually is…

I like your posts 2023. But my point is if you have veteran placeholders make 'em former Sox players/pitchers. Nobody cares about somebody else's oldies making outs for our team. Did anybody pick up that guy who played OF for us last year, I forget his name.  He went to the Cardinals then went 3-for-3 in one of the playoff games I attended in KC last October.
