February 21, 20251 yr Author I have said that almost all of their veteran additions have very limited upside but this one has absolutely zero upside.

He SHOULD be making signings LIKE these, but they should be with guys that have a chance to provide some actual value. The upside with Clevinger and most of the rest is that if they bounce back and play well, they’ll waste innings/ABs for the prospects, and still return nothing of consequence at the deadline. Like adding one win if everything goes perfectly is simply not worth the opportunity cost for this team right now. Ding.

How about when in the middle of a pandemic he lied to his teammates, went out partying with his buddy, and put his immuno-compromised manager at risk? Is that ok too since he wasn’t convicted of a crime in a court of law? https://nypost.com/2019/07/12/indians-carlos-carrasco-feeling-baseballs-love-after-cancer-diagnosis/ And his teammate Carlos Carrasco at that time...

You don't have confidence that the package Getz brings back for Clevinger/Martin Perez/Austin Slater will dwarf the epic Fedde/Kopech/Pham return?

An entire season of pitching well in 23 didn't give him any value to the 29 other MLB teams. six weeks of ST isn't going to do a damned thing.

Meanwhile, Jerry just spearheaded one of the largest redevelopments this city has seen in the last century. You guys aren't having a great week. Problem is, there is nothing to gain.

Just look at the responses here and on social media (from both Sox fans and at a national level). As an organization, if you want to throw caution to the wind as far as optics are concerned, at least do it for a player that isn’t terrible.

There are a million cheap reclamation projects who might actually have a shot at having value out there. Pick pretty much literally anyone else.

February 21, 20251 yr 2 dead giveaways how bad this signing is. WestEddy would endorse Bozo the Clown at SS if Getz signed him. He's stayed away. And TaylorStreet, the guy who hasn't left his mom's basement since Jose Valentin was playing SS, endorses it fully. It has to be terrible.

Well...it's not quite as consequential as a Constitutional crisis or the IRS now taking months and months to get refund checks out there...so it's all basically okay, at least comparatively.
