Something something new, stellar hires something something revamping the org.

Either these hires actually suck or they've just made a solid year and a half of bad decisions due to bad luck.

This is most alarming to me. Everyone is hanging their hat on all these changes and hirings being made behind the scenes and here we are DFA'ing people this regime just traded for one offseason ago.

I can't see an argument for carrying Slater, Tauchman, Jankowski and Taylor over DeLoach, Fletcher and Colas.

Because Fletcher, DeLoach, & Colas aren’t major league caliber players.  They aren’t even young anymore for those who think they will suddenly figure things out at the major league level despite being bad at Charlotte.

The Janikowski add is hilarious. He had a .508 OPS in 200+ PA's for the Rangers last year. Fletcher is probably a better defensive RF'er than Janikowski, and while Janikowski is better in CF he's also getting old and defensive skills fall off quickly. Is he better than Robert if Robert is back? No.

Janikowski will be here for a week at max.  The decision comes down to Greg Jones vs. Dominic Fletcher.

I dont understand Jankowski over Fletcher at all. Fletcher was pretty awesome defensively I'm RF and I'm sure they could get some of that to translate in CF.

Jankowski will be DFAed in less than a week.  Might be eaiee to sneak Fletcher through waivers right now given alll the player movement happening.

Look, the guys who replaced them aren't anymore "major league calibur" than the guys they replaced.  They are 4A players at best.

Barfield involved in Fletcher deal, he needs heat also. Barfield should not be involved in any more potential trades. Getz is not GM material so inept.

Also while we're at it, the Cease trade:

  • Soft-throwing righty that needed Tommy John
  • Hard-throwing righty with control issues that needed Tommy John
  • 30-year-old reliever that has been DFA'd
  • Young CF prospect, but didn't hit above .200 at A+ ball

"Best package offered"

Did I miss Iriarte needing TJS?

When did that happen?

Getz gutted the pro scouting function after making this trade.  If anything, this is a bad look on Barfield for recommend Fletcher over McCarthy.

Idk man, Chris Getz might end up with the worst winning percentage in history at the guaranteed rate we're going.

Getz's strategy for rebuilding is to keep playing older players in favor of guys under 30 that have control.

I see what you did there

Which guys?  Jankowski?  He will be DFAed within seven days.  Tauchman has been a legitimately productive OF for the last few years despite every poster here calling him “crappy”.  Slater was one of the best hitters against LHP from 2019 to 2023 and was almost certainly a recommended “buy low” target of Fuller’s.  I wouldn’t have added Taylor with the other two vets already in place, but Taylor is an elite defender who put up 2 fWAR/season from 2021 to 2023.  Fletcher, Colas, & DeLoach can’t even hit AAA pitching in the second most hitter friendly park in AAA.  People are demanding Getz be fired for losing 121 games last year and then turn around and complain about him adding what should be a 2 win RF platoon vs. the -2 wins they got out of the position last year.  At this point, people will whine about everything.  The people who were applauding the additions of Eder & Fletcher when first acquired are now throwing hissy fits about Getz being a total idiot for trading for them in the first place.

You are acting like age doesn’t catch up with these guys.  Slater is 32 and Tauchman and Taylor are nearing 35.  I think you are going to be in for a rude awakening with how these guys perform this season.

How often have we said this with vet signings since the Kenny and then Hahn days?  If only he produces like he did a couple years ago…

Age might catch up with them….that’s possible.  But Tauchman has shown no signs of slowing down and I trust Fuller’s evaluation of Slater.  Projection models predict this will be a ~2 win RF platoon on a Reinsdorf budget.  That is a 4 win improvement over the garbage we trotted it there last year and would blow Fletcher, DeLoach, & Colas out of the water…age he damned.

It doesn't seem like he did, he's on the Charlotte preliminary roster. Unless somethings changed over the last few days that I'm not aware of.

Is it just me or did they trade for Fletcher and sour on him almost immediately?  Granted, he was bad... but still feels like he was in the doghouse from the jump.

Fletcher was a Tony LaRussa move, theres your answer

I have to double check the forum rules, but I'm pretty sure this automatically makes you 2nd in line to Chief Admin of the board.

Which makes it a bad look on Getz for his guy making that terrible assessment...

One would have thought that Barfield would known about Fletcher; but in the end it is a minor deal.

Wasn't DeLoach really the last piece in the Santos trade?   We hoped for better, but the odds were that he was a AAA guy. People really liked the trade because of the draft choice....seems a bit disingenuous to hate it now.  I didn't like the trade because  I'm not a big fan of Shirley and the way the Sox draft (too much reaching, too much punting for my tastes) but I'm in the minority on that.

Eder was a declining prospect when acquired; we've seen KW pull that handout sort of move before (when moving Jackson and Quentin, e.g.).  it was almost like a FU to Hahn....and then JR said FU to both of them.

I would rather see Christian Mena in our rotation right now or in a few weeks over some of these other guys, especially when we have the hindsight to see how many injuries have happened with our pitchers.

Somehow despite knowing Iriarte was who they traded for, I searched for Berrora when checking the DL info. I edited that post cause yeah, that was stupid.

Lol me too ! Double victory day for me because I said after they signed MA Taylor that I thought Robert would still be on the Sox on Opening Day.
