Hey, he’s up to 61 wRC+ and -0.2 fWAR. Improvement! Their problem is the Sox are already more than a quarter of the way through their games prior to the trade deadline and he’s dug quite the hole. Next 30 games will have to put up a ~140 wRC+ just to get back to a league average hitter!

They're seemingly willing to eat smaller bites here and there...but they were very deliberate/intentional about no new FA contracts over around the $5 million mark. The problem is they keep throwing away $25-35 million every season that could clearly be much better more efficiently allocated across baseball operations, tech/analytics and infrastructure. That's the habit of these small market organizations. They sign them for possible trades that never work. Fans losing teams talk about trades, fans of winning teams talk about signing players. That's the lunacy of the business of baseball that even a salary cap can't fix.

LOL. "Hey, junior, where's your $150 Santander jersey?" he asks, knowing what that smoke in the back yard was last night. Weird how we're not getting regular Santander pokes. Santander was never a true star... just had that one great outlying season heading into FA which happens all the time before early the inevitable 30s fall off. It's why Machado or Juan Soto or Kyle Tucker or Guerrero Jr., whoever hits FA at ages 26-28, are so nuch more valuable. Majority are high school and Latin American players. But the guy mocking Robert daily wanted to punt a draft pick so his kids could walk around in Santander jerseys and have piece of mind. You don't really need to explain every one of my posts to me, dude. 1

JR would probably say... well look where we'd be now with Santander AND Benintendi both still on the books??? It's spending wisely...allocative efficiency... not the unwillingness to ever spend over $5 million again.

It certainly looks like JR has cut the budget back while they work on the TV deals, a new stadium, and the transition to Ishbia/Reinsdorf sons/whomever. It's a good thing that the FO that signed all those bad FAs is gone.

WhiteSox2023
Let’s see what he’s traded for. That would be the true and ultimate review right? I can’t wait to see what top prospect he is traded for… Edited May 2 by WhiteSox2023
ChiSoxFanMike
Not Dodgers related, but is it too much to ask for Justin Crawford from the Phillies? Robert is a massive upgrade over Johan Rojas and obviously the Sox need more young outfield talent.

I don’t think Robert returns a T100 MLB prospect at this point. Just not enough surplus value there as the option years at $20M per aren’t a bargain by any means if he isn’t better than a 2 WAR player now. caulfield12
Atlanta NYY Royals Guardians Athletics and Phillies getting disappointing contributions from CF. Harris and Bellinger unlikely to be changed out, especially with Acuna soon returning. Phillies and Dodgers speculated about now for months. Then you have the don't trade with AL Central opponents thing I guess.

He's capable of making a real difference for a number of contenders...Vaughn will get a Tier C prospect back, Robert two tier B and closing in on back end Top 100 if he keeps making highlight reels like yesterday. GMs dream about talent like Robert...that can impact the game with speed/defense even when slumping.
