Like I said Getz seemed to make it clear based on his comment about helping long term that Elko is not in their plans. Why these other stiffs and has been's keep getting chances are beyond me.

That simply makes no sense.  Even if Getz and the Sox don’t think much of Elko’s hitting ability in the majors, we already know Maton sucks.  Elko could definitely fail in the majors but he at least has youth on his side.  He is 26, two years younger than Maton.

Some of you guys are absolutely delusional. Vaughn is here because Getz is a coward and can't tell his boss he wasted 5.85 million. He has no trade value.

  • He is?? News to me

Well Burger was released by the Rangers.  I’d rather him than Vaughn but not Elko - he should get a shot first

id take Jake back for depth if nothing else

I'm in the opinion that even if they are not in your plans, and you don't believe long term in them as prospects - you still reward someone who's doing well with a call up when you don't have a block. Vaughn is not a prospect. He's not blocked. Been spoon fed pretty much his whole career. He hasn't worked out. Vaughn is not a block.

When you show your actual prospects that you will reward outstanding performance by calling up the players, it builds a good morale around the place instead of creating a jailed mindset; "No matter what I do, I'm never getting out of here so why should I try hard"

Lastly, I honestly believe that Getz is waiting to trade Robert, then will promote Elko. What does one have to do with the other? To me, nothing. To Getz, he probably sees it as, it frees up a roster spot, and I'm not creating an Elko vs Vaughn thing. The problem is, the fans have already done that by not calling him up. Elko could DH. Or Vaughn can. Heck, send Vaughn back to the OF for all I care if you're adamant that he has to play for the Chicago White Sox.

It  just seems to me that this ownership is content with this losing and low payroll. That's how this comes off to me.I don't think i'm wrong.

This is just bizarre.

Julks, Fletcher and Elko are all hitting well so he brings up Maton again? FFS.

And none of Maton, Amaya, Taylor, Rojas are in "long term plans" so I don't see what that has to do with it.

I don't think anybody including JR is "content" with losing, he has always wanted to win but as I've said before he wants to win HIS WAY.

Big difference.

His way is not paying players what the market is giving them, not going outside the organization to fill key positions, not dealing with certain agents and not firing those who aren't performing both on the baseball side and the non-baseball side unless he absolutely has to.

Hell he even is still hoping a salary cap comes into play to break the MLBPA.

Given those parameters he's satisfied with the way things are but blames outside forces (including the fan base) and situations that are causing him to do it his way.

It's total BS of course.

He does, of course, love the low payroll given all the money he's getting from national and international deals that MLB has worked out.

The Rangers optioned Burger to AAA, they didn’t release him.

There was part of me that was thinking Getz was beginning to get it with the Smith, Meidroth and Quero and Workman moves. I know Quero was Hahn's parting gift, but at least Getz didn't dither on actually calling him up.

And then he does something stupid like this.

I don't think a salary cap would break the Players Union.

The bad teams will still be bad teams.

Odd how some fans and Getz are afraid to bring up a guy who hasn't taken a major league swing but somehow manages to hit over .350 at AAA.

It also sends a bad message to younger players that enter this organization,'

It seems coddling is more important than winning.

Getz just looks stupid right now.

Right now the Elko situation is the biggest WTF in baseball.  Odd that people defend it.

I can't see this organization ever being competitive without the Sox fan low expectation yardstick as long as Reinsdorf and Getz are in baseball.

When will we get the free Corey Julks thread drop?

I don’t think JR has any intent to be competitive during his final years as owner

I’d rather see him up than watch anymore Slater.

Edit: actually, over Palacios or Maton as well.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if Sox traded Elko for a "prospect".

If JR wasn't content with this losing he would have improved the team this off season. They lost 121 games last year and he did nothing to improve the team. He could have easily signed 2 hitters and one bullpen pitcher and this would have been a better team. I have  no doubt that they will trade Robert Jr and  Benedenti for next to nothing. The trades will simply be salary dumps. Last but not least I heard Bruce Levine on the radio this morning and he said that Elko has not been brought up because the organization thinks  he's a one tool player. Last I looked Elko has home runs and a high BA. How many tools does Vaughn have? I also wouldn't be surprised if Elko was traded sometime this year to another team who will let him play.

Elko is not even in the Top 30 list of Prospects. What a joke. He'll prob be someone's Rule V pick next year.

Thought he was around 28 on some lists...

Irony of ironies is University of Mississippi's very own Jacob Gonzalez, a first round draft pick and pretty sure Elko teammate at least one year, has zero frontline carrying tools too.

In what world is it acceptable to have Maton and Palacios as 4th 5th 6th place DH's?????

We're supposed to trust the White Sox to judge position player talent?

Why?

That whole theory now rests upon Braden Teel and Bonemer.

Why Maton you ask? Well, here you go:

“Just love the aggressiveness [from Maton] at the plate,” Venable said. “Always ready to do damage. Kind of a guy almost like a fast-break offense, you know? He can hit the ball out of the park, he’s going to put a good swing on it, put a good at-bat together. Excited to have him back.

“And the other thing I have to say is that he’s awesome in the clubhouse. We love him in the clubhouse. That was a part of it, too.”

Those are not the career big league numbers of a legit DH...except for an awful team.  Just next to zero upside.  And he doesn't have a position that he plays exceptionally well on the defensive side, either. Just don't get it.
