Highland
In past years, I would've been pissed by a Cub ass-beating like this. At this point, what difference does it make? The Sox have gone through plenty of ass-beatings like this. 20 runs in two days. Pathetic.

Timmy U
Despite the results, Vargas going from where he was to the heater he's been on since the swing change is the kind of good news the Sox need to get out of the hole they're in. If Colson can keep making progress too, that'll be something to hopeful about as we walk through the valley of the shadow of suck.

WBWSF
This is suppose to be a rebuild year. It seems like Tim Elko is on the bench more than he has been on the field. Why bring him up if he isn't going to play every day. Haven't we seen enough of Vaughn?

nrockway
this game could've been so much better. you knew with this weather and wind conditions, Wrigley was going to be a bandbox and it was going to be a high scoring game. both teams should've scored 10+. Vargas was incredible, probably the best game of his career, right? hitting the ball consistently in what seems to be a repeatable manner, but his defense in particular has impressed me. he's not 'passable' at third base, he's actually good. Vargas, Meidroth and Sosa have all played some stellar defense and all three guys I thought were 1b/dh risks. all three look like every day players at worst, you could envision Meidroth replicating a lot of Tim's production at SS with less power but better obp and better defense (we'll see). on the other end, you have Robert and Vaughn combined 0 for 8. Vaughn at least progressively crawls down the order and has more days off than he used to, but it seemed like Robert was turning a corner and then fell flat. I think Robert will be fine because it appears he's 'adding' new wrinkles to his game (walks/stolen bases) and is as good defensively as ever, but Vaughn is just...I think at this point irredeemable. There are like 4 other guys you'd rather give at bats to who combined make less than he does. I think Robert takes it personally that PCA is the hot new center fielder in town and is outperforming him in every category...he tried really hard to throw him out at home when there wasn't a chance, a stark contrast to him holding the ball last season as some nobody tagged up to win the game. I think LuBob is playing like he cares and is still contributing despite his ice cold bat. I think the biggest loser of this game though (besides all of us) is Venable. Questionable calls on positioning in that big inning, but one starts to get the impression that he'll just throw in the towel when the odds aren't very good. Castro and Gomez, who are these guys? In a lost season like this one, this series vs the Cubs is an important one and you should be managing it like you're trying to pull a miracle out of your hat. 6-2 is not an insurmountable lead particularly in these conditions. And this Sox team actually hits the ball a little bit, but the conversion rate of hits to runs has to be even worse than last year.

The main reason why this particular game bothered me is because they beat themselves. If they get blown out but don’t beat themselves, fine. But that 6 run inning was pathetic and set the tone for the rest of the game. Edited May 16 by ChiSoxFanMike
greg775
Man, our pitching suddenly imploded today. Cubs got some good wood on the meat our guys were delivering. Little surprised we got boatraced, however, no Elko. WTF. Give me more Elko.

Like my dad said, you get what you pay for. Anyway fundamentals yet again cost this team. Physical errors led to a big second inning and the mental mistakes in the game were to many to count. White Sox baseball at its finest! 🤡

S.Wilson Leasure Booser Vasil??? What kinds of 1A options are those? But you burn them in a 4 run deficit game...you're more likely to have to go to even worse options like we watched today. The White Sox have been in so many close games that the four I listed are already close to overworked...

At 14-31, the Sox matched the worst 45-game start in franchise history — a mark shared with, among others, last year’s team.

tray
Kyle Teel would likely have made at least one of the two tags that Thaiss missed. Bring up Teel now rather than later. Stop wasting time, a precious commodity for professional baseball players who have a short time window to play in the majors. I was disappointed in Shane today because he didn't have his usual stuff and left too many hangers that got smashed. He just wasn't on and Thaiss called a sh1t game. You realize he actually lowered his ERA today...yes? And that he's Top Ten in all of MLB still? The White Sox had 4-5 errors/mental mistakes that made him throw an extra 15-20 pitches. The second inning never would have happened without Thaiss Vaughn and the outfield defense on the corners has been pretty lousy too. The conditions were also crazy with balls flying out in all directions.

And Teel has been just average at Charlotte where 900 ops numbers aren't uncommon.

It's not unusual for a pitcher to get thrown off his game when the defense gives 5 outs.
