PaleAleSox
His turnaround has been super promising. Hopefully he keeps it up. Him locking down 3rd for a while would be huge for the rebuild. 1
T R U
I’m so sick of seeing Vaughn in this lineup. He’s the worst player on this team yet is out there damn near every game.

Showcasing him for the trade deadline deal that will return a bucket of balls.

Vargas needs to have a couple of legit hitters behind him so he doesn't get shitty hitters in the next 2 spots hitting below .200

But he looks to be as middle of the pack as you can get for Outs Above Average metrics. 17th out of 35 qualified 3B, good for literally 0 outs above average lol. 1 1

hogan873
Very encouraging to see his improvement at the plate after the adjustment. This shows me that he has the talent and was willing to listen to tap into that talent. I think a guy like Vaughn doesn't have the talent, to begin with, and doesn't seem to have the will to get better. The infield looks promising for the future with Elko, Sosa, Meidroth, and Vargas. Elko could end up being a right-handed hitting Adam Dunn (low BA, 30+ bombs a year), and that would be acceptable.

chitownsportsfan
It's about fucking time a player on our team realized how to pull the ball for power. It has never been more important for players at every position. Defenses, even with the shift rules, are still converting more balls into outs then ever. You gotta lift the ball, especially in our stadium where a lot of long fly balls will go over the fence all summer.
Bob Sacamano
Didn’t know where to post this, but I have a feeling with the outfielders coming back any day now, Baldwin is going to be a casualty so he can get every day at bats at AAA. There just isn’t much room for every day at bats if you have Vargas at 3B, Sosa at 2B, and Chase at SS.

Baldwin was OK in his role but he's exposed playing so much in positions he's not suited for. It's too bad Colson is scuffling as I'd like to see Baldwin get 80 games at SS under his belt at AAA to see if he has any future as a utility IF emergency OF type.

Wasn’t Colson seeing some time at 3B at AAA as well? Or is that only when Meidroth was there.

Not sure and too lazy to look but I'd probably try and keep Colson at SS for now. Last thing he needs is worrying about defense. If he ever hits enough to be a solid MLB we can find a spot for him somewhere. It's not like we're loaded with stars. Hell, he could play 3B and some 1B as a platoon bat if he's slashing 240/330/400 and be a decent regular. Not sure he can hit 240 tho. Now regarding Vargas, he’s played really well lately. Hopefully he can keep it up. Clearly what was getting him out before isn’t now. 1

Yea both things can be true here: he deserved a shot and he's really no better than Vaughn. They both are below replacement. Elko at least seems like he's got a little range at 1B but he's average at best over there and he's going to hit basically like Palka. Not a MLB, not for long anyways.
