Slater back, Baldwin to Charlotte

Rojas is really blocking Sosa and Baldwin...who definitely should be playing everyday and working on his defense as well in CHLT.

Capra just pointlessly replaced Baldwin.

And then you have the Benintendi Tauchman Slater Taylor veteran outfield of playing time pointlessness as well.

SIGH.

Adrian Houser might lower that average age lol.

I don't mind Baldwin going down if he isn't going to play every day and just any random guy on the bench (Capra) at the MLB level.

There are a lot of roster decisions coming up that are going to be very interesting to see how its handled. I would imagine Teel is going to be up her sooner rather than later, not really much more he needs to do down in AAA.

There is no room for Teel right now.

Well this is the problem with non star level prospects.

Right now, you're looking at Vargas Meidroth Quero sticking and Sosa/Baldwin losing out.

The problem is neither Vaughn nor Rojas are part of the future plan...so more than 2/3rds of the entire lineup (including 4-5 OF spots) after Elko goes down is basically irrelevant to the future, except (maybe) trading Robert eventually.

And Quero is basically playing only 2 out of 3 games.

He would have to be hitting 850+ AND/OR the Sox trade Lee/Thaiss to really force that issue.

Unfortunately you can't "Matrix" Thaiss' game minus the botched catch) into Lee's RH body lol.

Well, would you rather watch a young player struggle in the majors but at least get MLB experience or watch a 32 year old vet get pointless at bats?  No one is trading a bag of balls for Slater.

Yeah a youth movement requires youth who will be long term starters.  Baldwin could be a guy who helps a team, but I don't think he is a guy worth building around.  He seems like even if he is a starter somewhere, he would be a guy you are trying to upgrade over.  Utility guy seems like a solid ceiling.  For a team like this one, that has value and would be a positive development, but when you talk about the future of the White Sox, Baldwin is not a guy who you are penciling in somewhere long term.

Is Slater somebody who you would consider long term?

I'd like to see them bring up Fletcher and/or Julks.  Each is having a good year; each was traded for so the Sox saw something in them.

With all of the mess that was the 2024 season, perhaps they should get another look before rendering definitive judgments.

Slater and Tauchman have each been around MLB for a number of years, and neither has ever been a full-time starter.  They see to be similar offensive players, neither with much power and one RH and one LH.  I guess the idea is to platoon those 2 eventually.    But I  just don't know what that does for us.

Venable foolishly played Brooks in LF where he looked bad on a few balls hit to the wall and no doubt felt bad about that. He is a shortstop not an outfielder. The thing I liked about Baldwin was that, as an infielder, he had exceptional power. 3 and almost 4 HR....more than a lot of other players on this team. He started over-swinging and striking out so ultimately, he put himself on the cut list.

Baldwin's best position was arguably 2B coming into the season...as the White Sox/Venable barely trusted him to start regularly at SS.

In fact, they kept Amaya on the team largely to prevent that from happening.

Baldwin not a guy with a longterm future fringe at best

He’s also not ready. Just hasn’t logged many hours as a catcher in general. Sox would be foolish to call him up at this point until it’s less than 45 days. They’ll want to leave him ROY eligible in 2026.

It’s an infielder playing the outfield but Baldwin has to be able to play a solid outfield or he’s not a big leaguer imo. He has to play a super utility role.

Obviously he could force the issue but I was told the plan is to get Teel a full season at AAA.

They've got a pretty good excuse to do it by saying he's blocked by Quero this year.
