that's a reality for any sports franchise

baseball is the least predictable sport and we treat it like it is

we fall for the same patterns of mythical success like the other habitual losing organizations, these are often the same ones/teams the past 3 decades

And if not, Ishbia will fire Getz, promote Paul Janish, and everybody will flop over and start defending Getz.

Why would anyone defend Getz?

Ishbia will not be promoting from within a failing organization. That I am certain.

I'm also certain no one will ever be clamoring for Getz to run their baseball team in my life.

I'd argue it's the most predictable if we're talking regular season, just for the simple fact that it has the most games so the most outcomes and opportunities for skill to rise.

None of them are predictable in the sense that these guys, for the most part, are so close in talent.

I think the main thing is, Andrew Vaughn was pretty bad for 4+ seasons here. In 150 plate appearances with Milwaukee, he has produced 1.2 bWAR when he produced a total of -0.5 bWAR in his Sox career.

Something got changed with him from some form of instruction from the Brewers. The K rate is drastically cut, the walk rate has drastically risen, these are all clear signs of a change in approach at the plate.

Vaughn could bottom out, but that will never undo what's going on with him right now. The Sox have a terrible reputation with player development and this is an example of someone else being able to get SOMETHING out of Vaughn the Sox never could even if its only for 200 or so PA's if that's even how it ends up shaking out.

At one point his fWAR was +1.7 with MIL in just about a month when he's way under 0.0 career-wise with the Sox...

Exactly.  I have no clue why WE assumes Ishbia would promote any loser from this current org.  He is a baseball fan and has watched this team.  He sees what we see.  He knows he’s buying the team from an awful owner who has lost more games than he has won, while barely trying.  I sincerely doubt Ishbia thinks that 2nd place (stated by Jerry himself) or a continuous rebuild is just as good as winning divisions and Wild Cards.  Getz won’t have another job in baseball once Jerry is six feet under, just like Kenny and Hahn.

And Renteria and Grifol.

Big assumption.  I don’t see them winning until Ishbia takes over.  Jerry isn’t spending any money on a team he is planning to sell.

He's also not, at age 89, going to suddenly start hiring competent people over loyalists to run this organization after decades of not doing so.

I'd be shocked if Ishbia is spending around $2B to buy a franchise only to keep a bunch of incompetent clowns in charge of operating the team.   He's not an idiot - he knows the Sox are losing market share and have struggled with anemic attendance and waning interest for years.    He's also not going to starting throwing money at high priced free agents when the team's management is incapable of evaluating and developing talent.

He's basically right at his career median, just (kinda predictably) got a new team bump and is now reverting to the mean.

Vaughn has been the same player his entire career, a mid hitter 15-20 HR OPS somewhere around 700 who offers nothing past his bat. Will be the same this year.

If Vaughn goes through arbitration with Brewers, he will be fairly expensive.

I don’t think so.  Over $6 million for sure, but he was so damn awful with the Sox that his insane hot streak with the Brewers hasn’t even brought his overall numbers back up to his career norms yet.  And now his bat is cold.

Yeah if this continues, I bet the Brewers let him go

This.  I think his price probably pushes into the $8 to $10 million range in his next arb year, which means unless he goes back to hot, he will go back to unemployed.  Getting offered arb at about a $6 mil price tag was dumb enough, but I don't think the Brewers will keep digging that hole.
