8/3 3:07PM CDT Gamethread, Sox go for Sweep of Angels

Recommended Posts

11th time this season the Sox took a lead into the 7th inning or later and lost.

Let's just say the bullpen isn't as atrocious as last year but still remains a real work in progress.

That ending is the Sox we are so use to seeing.  Hard not to be pissed off about this one.

Yesterday was fantasy but today was reality that the pen is one of the worst in baseball.

Pens are the most inconsistent part of a team.  Bad will always be bad and good will have its moments. I don't know how many dumpster dives you can try to fix that but we've also seen that had the the highest payroll be just as bad.

Us losing Vargas (and them getting back Trout) was a big swing in this one too.

Lineup is longer with Miggy at 1B and Sosa and 2B instead of Rojas.

Baldwin/Colson/Sosa/Vargas infield should actually be pretty productive if Brooks keeps hitting.

Hopefully Mead can get acclimated quickly and be ready to start in Seattle.

Quero and Teal had shitty games today as well. Oh well. It happens. Keep winning series.

When we pile on last year’s manager we really should be piling on last year’s bullpen.

As always with this stat there is no context.  Eleven out of how many?  How does it compare to the rest of MLB?  What is the winning percentage when leading after seven for the entire MLB.  That eleven number means nothing by itself.

I’m guessing 11 out of as many games played to this point. I don’t think that’s confusing

Some crazy stats this series. That was the first time angels had lost 1-0 with one hit since 2006 Sept -- against, the Sox. FG started that one according to angels broadcast.

Actually it would eleven out of 53 (the 11 loses plus the 42 wins).  It wouldn’t be out of games played.  Unless they’ve lead after the 7th in every game this year.

11 out of how many times they took a lead into the 7th inning.

White Sox currently have the lowest save conversion percentage in baseball...

57.9% save conversion rate for ten "worst" teams with most blown saves still 11% higher than Sox % rate.

When did the Sox have the highest payroll?

Well, that’s a pisser.  It’s good to give a damn again.  Go Sox!

This was my takeaway also. I was still pissed about the game a couple hours later. I haven’t experienced that feeling in a few years, which has to be a good thing in terms of the progress of this team.

I was disappointed on some of the at bats when the Sox had Kochanowicz on the ropes. He was all over the place and a couple of first pitch swings got him out of jams.

The Angels SS is one slick fielder, nice double play combo with the 2nd baseman.

Too much Josh Rojas lately, he should be a late defensive replacement or once a week player.

2 out of 3 at the Big A works for me.

The loss bummed me out.  Then I told myself it helps with the draft pick.  A few minutes later, I was thinking it's good that tough losses don't hurt when the team is bad.  Then I started to realize these losses will start being painful next year.  It's not easy being a baseball fan.
