This is what blows my mind.  We could start them both and on the very remote chance the C gets hurt then you lose the DH for that day.  Who cares, were losing 100+ games anyway and just call up Lee th

Random, but does anyone else kinda miss the days teams could call up more guys in September?

This actually allows them to play both Quero and Teel without worrying about an injury costing them the DH position.  It leaves them an extra catcher to catch, even if the other guy is DHing.

Took far too long but late is better than never.

Should have released his ass the day after he came in as a defensive replacement and screwed the pooch...but that's just me.,

About time, more wasted money by the organization on stiffs.

Also known as "veteran presence"

What exactly is the purpose of this? I don't see how this helps with getting both Teel and Quero in the lineup everyday as one needs to DH and one needs to Catch, unless they are going to go full White Sox and start playing them out of position to get it done.

While I "get" that somewhat, its basically the same situation as now but were wasting a roster spot in case one of them gets hurt which would only cause a problem for the remainder of the one game they are currently playing in.

Rojas was a waste of a roster spot just by having no talent.  We also have plenty of IFs and dude was barely playing.  Lee at least allows us to utilize two of our best players on a daily basis instead of just one most days.

f*** Getz for not doing this 2 months ago.

Oh, no argument here for ditching Rojas. That was long overdue.

This is the purpose. Now they will do it without thinking they need to lose the DH if a catcher gets hurt. But like you said in another post, that only really effects the remainder of that game.

Yeah that was my only gripe about it, but as 2k5 said its not like they really needing something else right now anyways so I guess its whatever.

Me personally, I would package Quero and Sosa in the offseason for an OFer and just hand over catching duties to Teel. Neither one of them have the bat for fulltime DH and seems like a waste to split them at catcher.

They can all play cf duhhh. Moved a lot of pitching to get a so so future lineup it seems. Three catchers if they can hit.

When you take sample size into account, you can argue Sosa is the team's best hitter this year and you want to drop him?

Here's the above average batters they've had, minimum 50 at-bats.

  • Tauchman
  • Teel
  • Montgomery
  • Quero
  • Thaiss
  • Sosa

Dropping two of them, who are also very cheap for the near future, is crazy.

He has no position and I much prefer Meidroth's skillset as a 2B over Sosa. If you can package Quero and Sosa and get a good OFer I think that helps this team way more in the future.

People keep saying Sosa is this teams best hitter, yet Meidroth has almost doubled him in bWAR already as a rookie with room to grow. I just don't think he's a valuable player.

I definitely see what you’re saying. In fact, they can’t let Lee just rot on the bench, so he will play some, which could actually decrease the amount of games that Teel and Quero are both in the lineup.

If the number one goal is to get Teel and Quero in the lineup every day, then they should play one at catcher and one at DH every single game and deal with the one game consequences should one of them get hurt, which means Lee would not be needed.

In terms of skillsets to fit a team, I could be convinced that Medroth is the 3rd best 2B on the roster right now behind both Sosa and Baldwin pretty easily.  Dude is a pretty limited ceiling guy.  He's got one real tool, and lacks in others, much like the others.  Sosa at least provides some much needed power to a line up sorely lacking it.

Lee is needed if a one of the catchers gets hurt during a game and then you lose the DH.
What I would really like to see is Teel eventually winding up at first base.

Currently Teel and Quero are pretty much each playing 50% of the games.  If Lee allows them both to EACH play more, this is a win.  Think of it this way.  In 10 games, this allow you to

Teel: Catch 4, DH 4

Quero: Catch 4 DH 4

Lee Catch 2

Someone else DH 2

You now have these guys playing 80% of the time, instead of 50%.
