Kazuma Okamoto also strikes me as a not crazy option at 1B.

We're heading into Year 4 and they may lose 100 games again, probably 90 if it's better. I think White Sox management is getting away with not putting all resources into turning these around much quicker in the city of Chicago. This is crazy. They want to be thought of as some small market team with little resources. They're happy to play the fans as fools and not commit to building a team that can win and compete in a winnable division I'm a Sox fan, but it's hard to be treated like an idiot. This organization has been dumping on it's own fan base for decades. From JR, to Kenny Williams, Don Cooper, Hahn... even Garfien. Maybe for next season, it's not a big deal, but I don't like turning high end prospects into middle relievers. Taylor pitched about 63 innings this season. Maybe they want to ramp him up to about 100? That's Mike Vasil usage. 30 starts at 4 IP each is 120 IP. Maybe they don't want to guarantee a bullpen day every 5. Unfortunately it’s just one more year of control as a bullpen guy likely lessening his value since he isn’t starting. It could be worse though — imagine if we got Cade Horton’ed? Bob Sacamano
I kinda figured he’d be shopped. Previous GM acquired him plus we have Teel. Reallocate resources.

I don't think Korey Lee is anything more than a fringe backup - I hope they don't consider him as a viable option. If they can land a top 50 type prospect (like Quero is), maybe....just don't know that I like this or that Getz would be on this if he thinks it's important to have good catching prospects

Starting catchers at minimum wage are not cheap, and neither should Quero be.
caulfield12
Trading Quero when his stock is down a bit is dumb anyway...unless you truly believe his power numbers are pretty much never going to improve much.

How is his stock down? He was a top 100 prospect who was a just below league average hitter in his first exposure to MLB pitching. He looks like a guy who needs a little coaching and pro reps to be a regular starting catcher.

It's not that easy for a catcher SS CF to finish at -0.2.

But he has yet to reach his peak value which is probably what was meant. Doesn't matter to me because I think Quero is gonna be an all star and they'll be fools to trade him.

Hang onto him giving him backup reps, and you may kill his value even further. He's shown he can hit in the bigs. Every team has the hubris to believe their development system is better than the one they're acquiring from.

Not seeing that it's obvious he gets a consensus Top 50 prospect/s like Teel obviously would...especially OFers or SS. If other teams offer substandard returns for Quero, then keep him. I just don't think his stock is down. He'd have to do a lot to raise his value from where it is now. He can play in the bigs. He's not overmatched. He still has the ceiling of developing his power and defensive game with more reps in another system.

CWSpalehoseCWS
I'd be onboard for trading Quero for a young MLB ready outfielder. It does feel a bit premature though, but I'd accept the logic behind it. I just really hope Getz doesn't package him with dead weight like Benny to get out from under that contract of his...
