Crochet has issues that resulted in TJS and looked healthy. Robert is just chronically injured. Every season, he pulls something doing normal baseball things. Also, when you talk about Robert putting up 3 WAR by the end of June, you're talking about a rate of production he's never attained in his career. That's not even "odds against him" territory. I agree that he'd have to become a completely different player in order to change the conversation at the TDL to a player teams vied for. But that's like betting on the dealer mistakenly leaving the instruction card in a deck of cards, and you getting a pair of them on the draw. All in order to get a slightly better return. 2023 he had a bad April but OPS'd over 1.000 in May and June. Maybe I should have said long odds instead of odds are agsinst it happening so everything youre saying is not lost on me. But I did also call it hoping for another Pope Miracle. I just think the situation calls for Getz to go for it as far as trying to get the best return possible. I also thinks it helps to have got the number 1 pick in the draft along with a large pool of draft money. It somewhat mitigated Getz just settling for the best of mediocre offers. We also disagree that a TDL return would only slightly improve IF his WAR and ISO got back to levels in 3 months of 2026 that we have not seen the last 2 seasons. Im also discounting my own JR factor cheapness level scenario that does not allow for paying both Murakami and Robert salary's . bmags
Been following the twitter fights on whether to trade Robert. Hard lines drawn on something that nobody views that impactful. On one side, some fans would rather keep due to painfully thin OF and dreams of 70 wins. On other, some fans point out he’ll not be around for next contention window and may get hurt and should trade now. Both seem to admit he’s unlikely to get much either way. So…don’t really care. Trading people is fun when they get back good players. Trading this guy to uh save money and optimize control but also he sucks and will get back nothing - not that appealing to me so who cares. 3

I agree with you for the most part, but you never know. Even a rookie/A ball guy may turn into something. Getz gave up Fajardo for Booser and he is now the Cardinals #9 ranked prospect. Getz just has to target the right return like under-the-radar guys. Edited 4 hours ago by WhiteSox2023

I think Robert works hard and would benefit from being part of a winning team like all players would. Health is the ultimate wild card if you hold onto to him, but I’m taking that gamble if all I can get is scraps right now. If you can get Petty and a comp lick then you make the trade and find a way to add another OF. Whenever Luis was hanging out with Colson in the dugout last year, he looked notably happier and more energized. Give me those vibes + Mune I pointed it out at one point that it looks like he’s a “vibes guy.” Like plays to the level of the talent around him. I just don’t think he’ll get more at the deadline/possibly may not even be available due to injury.

Myers has hit lefties well in his short time. I doubt the Reds just traded their #18 prospect for Myers to not play him. LF: Bleday / Myers CF: Friedl / Myers RF: Marte They also have Lux and Benson to play the outfield. I think this pretty much ends the Robert to the Reds talk. Hopefully Getz doesn’t settle for Luisangel Acuña now. 🤢 Edited 1 hour ago by WhiteSox2023

I even shut up when the Lenyn Sosa/low IQ stuff gets going because I think that's of the same ilk. There's even been a study about announcer opinions when it comes to white vs. non-white players. I believe that Robert works hard, harder than any of us can imagine. I think all these guys think baseball in ways none of us can. That's a bit different as you can actually SEE that. It isn't something made up to fit a narrative. If Robert looked like Lance Lynn and had the same physical breakdown injuries, sure question away. If he made boneheaded plays on a regular basis, again, question away on his IQ. As it stands the dude is absolutely ripped and plays some of the best CF on the planet. He's even played while OBVIOUSLY injured. Did anyone question TLRs work ethic when he couldn't be bothered to know the rules? How about David Wells 50 pounds overweight with back injuries? Sure didn't stop Wells from shittalking Frank.

Being in shape, playing elite defense and base stealing are all traits of hustle guys that work hard. EXCEPT for Luis Robert, for some reason.

He isn't really a real CF and he's LH so he isn't going to kill LHP as i read they really need a righty bat to kill LHP. Is Krall maybe making this move to get rid of one of their other OFers to make room for Robert? Or is he trying to create the illusion of leverage for the endgame of trade discussions? I don't see them as duplicative at all. It's also only 1.4m and even for a poor franchise that's not really a problem. I'm not saying Bleday isn't useful and isn't a good buy low candidate for them that they can flip, he is, but he doesn't really address what they need. It’s a move you quickly make when trade talks for Robert fall through at least

They just spent $2.32 million and their #18 prospect just to have a mediocre LF platoon and backup CF. Sounds like something the Sox would have done but the Reds beat them to the punch. I don’t buy the cheap Pirates ever being that interested and they also acquired Jhostynxon Garcia. People shittalked David Wells for being a fat slob here and still do. Also yes, people had problems with Lance Lynn as well. You're not helping your argument here.

Or the Reds were truly interested, Getz didn’t back down from his prospect demands and/or refused to include as much money as the Reds wanted, so the Reds pivoted to a cheaper platoon solution. That doesn't really bother me. I guess I argue against the "if only we would do all this stuff to create the perfect environment for Robert to not be ho-hum" people. He should be the guy who is the stuff that engenders excellence from his teammates, not the other way around. He does have value as our CF for the first 4 months of 2026. Unless he turns into Superman, he's not getting anything different out of trade partners in July. I think the league is wise to him.
