Why is this organization so infatuated with the Royals??

  • Let’s just complain because the guy is from the Royals and not actually look at the performance of the pitchers under his guidance.  🙄

  • If you want to give the assistant pitching coach credit for all of their successes why are we not blaming the White Sox current assistant pitching coach for the performances that got the guy above him

Seems he is super biometrics heavy so that’s okay in my book.

Quote

Connecting data and feel is an overarching theme in Royals camp this year. Pitching coach Brian Sweeney and the club hired Bove to be its director of Major League pitching strategy/assistant pitching coach -- a position heavy on analytics, especially pitch design.

[...]

Bove emphasizes this processes -- a team effort with the player at the forefront. His job, he said, is to meet the player where they’re at in terms of information-gathering, technology usage and understanding of pitch design.

Bove does that by asking questions and getting to know the player and what’s important to them.

“Through those questions, learn what he values, then find creative ways through the data that can give him what he wants,” Bove said. “Or maybe it’s not the data. Maybe it’s pictures or analogies, trying to tell a story. It’s not us trying to shove data down some guy’s throat if he doesn’t want it. I love data, but it’s just an accelerator at the end of the day. It’s not the only thing.

“I want players to be problem-solvers. When it’s them on the mound, it’s them. My job is to create an environment that supports the player and gives them the resources they need and want.”

Nothing wrong with hiring from the best organizations — the Marlins and Royals

Bet they came cheap.  🤣

Royals had some damn good pitching last year but don’t let that stop the narrative.

I was gonna make a joke meatball post pretending to be mad because Royals/Marlins, but I guess I was beaten to the punch by actual posts.

I don't know enough about either of them to form much of an opinion, but KC had some very nice pitching performances last year from unexpected contributors, so I'm intrigued.

I really don't have opinions about the two hires. I've read interesting things about them. It seems that Getz isn't quite the micromanager that KW/Hahn were. This looks like Bannister/Fuller/Venable running the things they're supposed to.

Track record speaks for itself, previous KC hires.

Wacha and Lugo and Singer were all very solid in 2023 as well.

Ofc that requires spending REAL money on FA pitching.

It’s also why KC is ranked around #10-14 going into next season.

Which is funny, because years ago under that structure, Chris Getz was out there telling everyone how much freedom he had.

He had so much freedom he felt the confidence to stage a coup against a SVP who won only the third Sox WS and a highly paid GM with a Northwestern-Kellogg/Harvard Law background who'd won MLB Executive of the Year in 2019.

Where did all that confidence come from?

The Marlins are hiring Chris Hess to replace Derek Shomon -- who is reportedly being named the White Sox hitting coach -- as the club’s assistant hitting coach, sources told MLB.com on Tuesday.

Shomon was an Assistant Hitting coach with the Minnesota Twins in 2023 and 2024.

The biggest news is we have hired two fired Twins hitting coaches....Popkins and Shomon now reunited.

And one of the first examples of a MLB team getting outbid by the SEC for their pitching coach...

Ah yes. Because they are all the same people?
