At no point do I ever want Matt Shaw on my team because I will always actively root against him.

Wow. He was on PEDs? And that bad?

Some people actually wanted this bum.  Turning 33 next month.  PEDs or not, he would have been a garbage signing.  Even worse now knowing that he would miss half the season and be without the benefit of the PEDs.

I would think most teams rosters are set by now. Or will be by Jan. 20. So are we good enough to go .500 yet? Sox won't be making any moves after Jan. 20. They never do. We're nearing the end of another mostly silent offseason. Once Feb hits it's play ball.

Do you have any idea how many free agents remain unsigned?

This happens every year.  Many of the mid and lower tier free agents don’t get signed until way late in the offseason.  Teams know that the players will get desperate and accept a cheap deal.  Why would January 20th be some sort of hard cutoff?  Spring Training games officially start on February 20th.

Many of the big name free agents don’t get signed until January nowadays

There’s still so many free agents out there. The hitting market has been so slow since Schwarber signed and that was a while ago at this point.

He's 100% getting traded now.  You don't come back from that.

Yup. WTF is Det thinking?

I discounted the Sox signing any free agents. That won't happen. I meant trades. Name a year the start of Feb approaches and trades are made. Sox don't sign free agents unless they can find some 1 year 6 mill deals for run of the mill pitchers.

The Angels sure love a former Sox infielder

The Angels absolutely love ex-Sox players.  No surprise, as they are every bit of a failure as the Sox.  They are the AL West White Sox.

I don’t feel like they get enough s%*# for how awful they are ran.

The White Sox certainly have a Josh Grosz in their system, and I'd like McCarthy over Kelenic. Maybe Barfield just doesn't like McCarthy.

Also feels like “The Los Angeles Sacramento Kings of MLB Angels of Anaheim”

What does that matter?  Barfield actually gave up something of value for an outfielder far worse than McCarthy, which means he made a bad trade.  No need to excuse the guy.  Hopefully Barfield starts liking better players going forward.

Who's excusing him? My point was that I'd rather see Jake McCarthy over Kelenic. We all surmise that Barfield made the call on Fletcher over McCarthy in 2024 based on his own knowledge and experience. And the Sox not pursuing McCarthy now, who was certainly available for a non-elite arm, still probably rests, to some extent, on Barfield's judgement.

Therefore, maybe Barfield just doesn't like the guy.

Kelenic was basically free.  Not sure what he has to do with McCarthy.

And we don’t just “surmise” that Barfield made the call.  It was well reported that he suggested to Getz to acquire Fletcher.

Maybe Barfield just thought Fletcher was better than McCarthy and it had nothing to do with not liking McCarthy.
