Quero Being Shopped

Why do I feel like Quero is going to be packaged with Robert to entice a team to eat all that salary?

That wouldn't make any sense.  They wouldn't have picked up the option.

I'm quite a Quero truther, so it would take quite the return to make me not hate this.

  • Feels like it’s too early to trade for need.  I don’t see the rush in dealing him.

  • With ABS being a thing next year, the value of framing will be decreased (although definitely not eliminated). Quero's biggest weakness is his framing, it cost him about 1.5 wins of value last year. I

True. I could still see them being packaged together but with Sox kicking in money to a team with an OF need like Philly or Mets.

That’s possible.  The Phillies could use both right now.  Not sure how much the Schwarber deal impacts their financial situation but a cheap Quero and a discounted Robert (if we include cash) could help.

Would you really put it out of the realm of possibility that Getz doesn't have an understanding on Roberts actual value around the league?

Not to that degree…no way.

Why would you also need to include money AND Quero along with Robert for the likes of Crawford?

That hardly makes sense.

Benintendi, sure.

But very few if any teams would bite on that one.

Ugh. Because it’s clearly not just for Crawford if we sent both and cash.

Jfc why do I even respond to you.

Where the f'hell did you write this supposed full package of players the Sox are receiving from the Phillies????????????????????????

How is that clear ?????????

Nobody has been mentioned but Crawford.

Don't say Bohm or something idiotic like that.

Or taking back Castellanos for Benintendi.

I'll save us both the trouble and put you on block.

The first time I've had to do that in twenty years.

This team is still so far away that worrying about position fit shouldn’t be a worry at the moment.

Unless Quero/his agent are pushing for a full time catching gig only, I don’t see why you can’t get all these guys AB’s. We don’t have a clear 1B or DH option.

And to get an OK return to justify not trading him at the deadline.

Based on the history of not trading him at his peak and trying to save face, it isn't the craziest thing that has happened here in the last few years.

Get a good return and I'm fine with it. I don't think having him DH and mixing in as a backup catcher is the best use of resources in the short or long-term.

Agreed....go get Crawford

I like the concept but Crawford is an outlier ground ball machine who really doesn’t play a good centerfielder. I don’t want him.

I wonder how Jordan compares to his dad Carl at this point. Just by looking at their stats and grades, they appear to have almost identical skill set, which is pretty cool.

Can he be coached up?  On the offensive side, he has decent raw power and hits the ball hard.  Are there adjustments that can be made to get more loft?  As for his defense, the speed is double plus and even some basic improvements to his reads / route running could result in an average CF.  Personally, I’d rather roll the dice on the major league ready 21 year old with multiple plus tools and strong bloodlines who potentially addresses a major position of need than have Quero as a backup catcher and part time 1B/DH.  I greatly respect your opinion on prospects through, so I should probably bring down my optimism on Crawford some.

What does an OFer of comparable value to Quero look like?

Jasson Dominguez or Spencer Jones or I’m not interested. Hopeful the Yankees land Tucker and/or Bellinger for this reason.

At his current trajectory, Quero is going to be a good hitter no matter where his defensive home is on this team. No need to trade him this winter.

this is stupid. just keep developing him. there's plenty of ABs to go around.

benintendi having the ick and not being tradable and soaking up all the DH ABs really fucked this roster for next year

A 1st baseman needs to have a better bat than what Quero can get you. —- note, I like Quero

Wholeheartedly endorse this POV. Very young switch hitter already looking like a professional hitter. Only a matter of time before we get 15-18 HR annually from him.

My point was more so that his trade value would only increase if we hold off on trading him this year. If he catches 60 games and splits remaining time between 1B/DH, while being a professional hitter that he is already showing he could be, you’re gonna get a much better return if or when you have a real need to trade him.

Crawford has to be a LFer if he's anything like his dad in terms of arm strength.

Probably fringey for CF and plus in left.

And better than Vargas/Mead/Sosa as well...

My tropical fish got the ick and were quickly goners.

No such luck with Benintendi.
