Unfortunately for Sox fans, the process by which the White Sox have done evaluations has been a problem in terms of results. There’s not necessarily any problem atm with the process right now that we are aware of in terms of Roch Cholowski and the rest. Just that the what the Sox like to do historically hasn’t necessarily served us well. Anyway, Roch Cholowski plateaued right when people were asking about the size of his upside. He’s pretty dang good though, obviously.

The relative upsides of the guys at the top of this draft are worth exploring as alternatives. When you’re drafting 1-1, are you trying to be safe, sure, or are you trying to reach for the most explosive outcome possible? If the Sox were trying to be safe with Smith over Griffin, this time, many of us will regret the outcome again if it repeats, and the Sox were over consecutive.

There's no need to reach for anything. You have a 3-5 WAR SS just sitting there. It's a no brainer. WIth the club suddenly fielding a pretty solid IF Roch fits perfectly with the timeline and if things are so good in two years then he goes to 2B or 3B and we just keep building. It's going to be hard to get colson off SS even if he's only a league average bat hes looking like a +15 run defensive player.

Tim Elko was one of those punted picks. It's just the wrong way to look at the draft. I always put the players in order by signing bonus. Many players taken in rounds 11-20 are more highly regarded th

  • This is the best news they could have received from these meetings. I do question Getz referring to it as an honor. Dude, it pretty much means your team really sucks.

I don't understand. This isn's like an "either/or". Cholowsky has a really high ceiling and he'll get better in the player dev system too. I don't think he plateaued. There's still a huge ceiling to reach.

lackey has really turned up his game. i'm glad i don't have to choose between those two. the high schoolers

have a much higher chance of failure.

I dont understand drafting a catcher and then moving said catcher off catcher, especially when the area scouts deem it his best position. Hes another athlete in CF. On top of that, id prefer not to draft a catcher 1-1 to begin with.

Sox are moving either Montgomery Cholowsky or Carlson ultimately as well.

Teel would be the one to move or be traded for pitching.

Maybe he ends up in/at LF DH 1B secondary catcher.

The only time I can remember a catcher being moved to CF is when Houston moved Craig Biggio out there. Now he's in the Hall

I'm at the point where I'm cool with Emerson, Lackey or Roch, can't go wrong with any of them

Fitting he was the last out too.

Hope so. I’m just glad we have the choice. Six weeks to go. Choose wisely.

He’s also only 18 years old. Only way Emerson is my guy is if he projects to have a trajectory like Bobby Witt Jr, where he starts with the club when the 2028 season begins.

I just don’t see it.

No he needs a lot more developmental time than Witt Jr., McGonigle, Griffin.

Exactly - so I would much rather take Lackey.

Cholowsky flew out to RF

Gasparino Kd bases loaded one out off high velo...really struggling with breaking pitches

UCIP now 0/18 with risp for the regional

VA tech pitcher already at 35 pitches after one ip

I kind of hope Roch chokes tomorrow and Lackey keeps going nuts deep into tourney play. 😆

UCLA 1 inning away from being bounced out of the tournament, Roch has been meh in these two games

30-25 unranked team in the Hokies about to take down UCLA.

Cholowsky struggling to stay over .300.

Playing strong defense, but this is it?

Roch up with 2 on, 2 outs in Btm 8th. Down 4-3

Have a game Roch lol

0-0 flies out to CF

I’d go Emerson now. Probably.
