They left out the part where Ishibia behind the scenes greenlit it.  I'm guessing he's not the heavy hand yet - but he's certainly involved a bit more, but he's being very respectful at how he is handling it with JR.  But you know what - I get that it is obvious, but I'll take the White Sox doing the obvious...that in and of itself is a good thing.

Is that a fact? WihteSoxDave is not enough proof in my opinion.

And there it is…never a fucking doubt

  • He’s not much more expensive than O’Hearn would have been with an incredible amount more of upside and flip potential.  There is no downside to this deal, as let’s be honest, they’ve wasted 17 mil a y

I am happy to read this. Murakami will learn that Sox fans have a special place in their heart for players that choose them. I hope it works out for both of us, but if he struggles I’ll still have this dudes back.

edit: d’oh “read this” meaning all of his comments and the responses.

He was wondering why we are signing some unknown Japanese guy instead of David Eckstein.

No Jerry, that is Japanese for David Eckstein.

Whatever Getz needed to do to get this signing through.

This pitcher throws 105MPH and has a titanium UCL...and is a lifelong White Sox fan and will take a discount to come here.....can he play shorstop?  Is he a grinder....Getz...yes...yes he is.  In fact....100 out of 100 of his comps are David Eckstein.

Ah, forget about Jerry and join me in ordering Kentucky Fried Chicken on Christmas Day in honor of this joyous occasion..............."Kurisumasu ni wa Kentakkii"

Thats pretty cool. I didnt know that's been going on for 50 years in Japan.

Amen to that.

I think a lot of Chicago sports fans felt it start to move a little bit over the last few days

Got a say Murakami is a big dude

clown ass article and a perfect example of why legacy media is dying. You get better analysis here in one page of this thread of random sox fans.

Haha, you are correct.  What kind of stupid statement is this?

”Bolster that with Murakami at first base, assuming he can lock down a primary role there, and at the heart of the lineup and it’ll be look out above.”

I mean the two year contract will be up long before Ishbia takes over.  I don’t think he’s as involved as people hope.

Cheap Trick at Budokan '78.

Or you could go with Bob Dylan in '79.

Almost assuredly in true baseball fashion he'll be referred to as Moonie when his manager and teammates talk about him.

Proven true. Getz said Moonie about 20 times in the press conference.

The rest of the world still doesn't know the White Sox are coming...not until they are at least out of fifth place.

That said, purely from a marketing perspective, this was the best possible allocation of $34 million by far.

If they were really trying to compete, though...Imai would be getting $130-$200 million.

Which is the same amount of $$$ they were willing to spend on Masahiro Tanaka over a decade ago.

Think he's going to be a fan favorite quickly

He seems really excited to be a White Sox, and you don’t always get that from a Sox free agent signing press conference lol

“We haven’t had a guy of this caliber. Not to this popularity,” White Sox executive vice president, chief revenue/marketing officer Brooks Boyer told MLB.com. “Those guys were 20 years ago, well before how you distribute information, how instant information can go: Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, whatever platform you want. You can get information and highlights to people across the world instantaneously.

“It’s a great opportunity for us to be able to market internationally, to grow the White Sox brand internationally and to help him and some of his teammates with growing their individual brands. That’s something we look forward to on the business side."

If you can't be bothered to know enough about the team you're covering to write such an obvious misinterpretation of a FA signing -- I can't be bothered to read your article.

Mune is gonna have an Area 51 like runway to take off or crash here: and that's exactly why it makes a ton of sense for both sides, at this price tag, at this junction.

Greenberg is all over sports media/biz side AND yet terrible with sports analysis/insight on "big picture" team strategy.
