$780K is the MLB minimum salary for 2026.  If Getz can’t spend that where he wants, there is truly no hope until Jerry is gone.

Haven't we all agreed to that. JR only approves spending when they look like they are close to competing. Thats not happening yet. Plus with the lockout looming, he isnt spending this year.

Must be just to get all the pitchers reps. Thought it was usually just 4 tho and then a coach would help out. Little spring curiosity maybe I'll ask someone if I get to a game.

Show case for Lee.

And even then, it’s just in areas with suppressed markets like bullpen.

Which, again, is the entire point. Jerry is absolutely willing to hurt the team to save a few bucks.  That hasn't changed with Chris Getz, Rick Hahn, Kenny Williams or any other hire.

It hasn't changed. I disagree with saving a few bucks as opposed to staying within revenues but the overall concept is the same.

It's a few bucks to advance the franchise.  It is an absolute failure to do otherwise.

You can't have that precipitous fall in revenues and simultaneously hardly growing the franchise valuation during that time (certainly since 2006) and then simply blame it on the stadium that you basically built yourself.

Look at his numbers and compare them to the rest of the league's free agents.  Benny is a minor league contract with an invite to spring training for the chance to get a couple of million dollars if he can make the team as a free agent.  He has zero value.

Salary is obviously not comparable but here are two guys.. one everyone hates and one everyone thinks is one of our best hitters..

.264 / .293 / .727 - 22 HR - 75 RBI - Can't play defense - 0.8 BWar

.240 / .307 / .738 - 20 HR - 63 RBI - Can't play defense - 1.0 BWar

But there are a couple big differences — the age of each player and that one player is improving with experience and the other is declining.

Shomon seems fun

Position coaches rarely matter but the key thing is if guys like you and want to at least try and work with you, so Shomon seems like a good coach that way. We seem to have cleared out some dead wood in the org the last couple seasons at least.

But salary IS the point, as is age.  Also this person literally can't find a regular starting job because of his defense.

So is the positional value. How are we even still debating these things in March 2026. If you cut Sosa every team other than maybe LA would claim him. If you cut Beni nobody would claim him even if the Sox agreed to pickup 1/3 of his remaining salary.

Brooks Baldwin hasn't started in any of the last 5 games, and I wanna know what's up.

Saw him in Glendale on Monday. He was out on the field during BP/Defense, but not a participant and had no gear with him. He stopped to sign some autographs and someone asked if he was healthy and he replied "getting there".

More of an indictment of bWAR than anything else IMO. Not properly accounting for how singularly bad on defense Benny has been relative to e.g. fWAR. Spread is 0.2 vs. 1.4 there. And for the record 2025 Lenyn was a vastly superior defender than 2025 Benintendi. There's a difference between below average and Adam Dunn

Breakout candidates

"Grant Taylor sits near 100 mph in short stints and has one of the best curveballs on Earth, along with a really good cutter and slider to bridge the gap between them. He's going to be stretched out more this year and could be a lot of fun to watch.

I don't have a great feeling yet as to whether this is going to work, but it's going to be fun to watch 1B Munetaka Murakami. He has massive raw power that can take over any game but also has huge contact and chase issues."
