"I'm not paying for this!  You said you were going to fix my car!  All you did was make it work like it did previously!"

  • If it were me, I’d walk down to Acuna and demand he bat switch hitter all season.

Nope, kid is fucking cooked.  If you ain’t fixed before your first full minor league season as a prep pick then it’s officially game over man.

EV was about what you'd expect

not sure if he broke his bat...inside out swing

Where do you see the EV listed?

I'm watching the Taiwanese broadcast on ELTA-1.

Probably only available through mlb.com GameDay.

Not sure if Japanese stadiums normally track ev's or not, but probably enabled for wbc at least.

Tier 8: Lots of losses ahead, but finally headed in the right direction.

This isn’t the year. Neither is next year. But it might be the year you look back upon where good things got moving.

Cardinals

Rockies

Nationals

White Sox

"It’s a little different in St. Louis and Chicago. Like the Rockies and Nationals, the Cardinals are looking to the future with a new lead executive hoping to modernize after years of stasis – but the lows haven’t been nearly as low here, and probably still won’t be. Like the Rockies and Nationals, the White Sox have had some truly dreadful on-field results, but they did improve by 19 wins last season, basically being one year ahead of the Rockies' path. It’d be nice not to lose 100 games again this year, but more importantly, they’ll look to see improvement from a talented quartet of young pitchers, as well as seeing what Munetaka Murakami can offer in his first year in the bigs."

Good to hear Thorpe is back on the mound.

I am not quite gullible enough to envision .650 OPS guys as foundation for a contending team.

He'll be in Korea in a few years imo. He stinks. Was not impressed in person or any of his starts last year on TV. One of Getz's bad scouting mistakes so far imo.

His meatballs right down the cock of the plate were painful to watch.  I’m sure they look like beach balls to opposing batters.

I just don't know what he has to miss bats. It's not his fastball, it's not his breaking balls and his changeup is solid but not elite and too reliant on pinpoint command. His average 4 seam velocity prior to TJS was 91.3. Maybe he gains a couple ticks otherwise I just don't see it.

presuming he was actually scouted.
Trade mistakes, yes.

Whatever the process was it led to a pretty s%*# outcome. At best he's like a 5th starter.

The Padres sent Miami their real pitching prospect when they traded for Tanner Scott.  Getz took the pass-along prospect.
It's really eye-opening to compare those 2 trades.

Who did the Padres trade to the Yankees to get Thorpe?

The San Diego Padres have acquired right-handed pitchers Michael King, Jhony Brito, Randy Vásquez and Drew Thorpe and catcher Kyle Higashioka from the New York Yankees for outfielders Juan Soto and Trent Grisham, President of Baseball Operations & General M

It actually worked out okay for both teams...

King and Vasquez are in the SD rotation still, Soto wasn't retained but Grisham surprised and ended up staying on a QO he's likely to underperform.

Snelling has never lived up to the prospect hype.

Pauley should be a familiar name.

3:37pm: The Padres are sending left-hander Robby Snelling and right-hander Adam Mazur to Miami, reports ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez. Mish adds that infielder/outfielder Graham Pauley is also part of the return, and Daniel Alvarez Montes of El Extra Base reports that infielder Jay Beshears is the fourth and final player in the return.

I coulda swore his changeup was much better than solid

Before surgery...plus plus, Top 3-5% in game.

But as noted, needs to come back throwing at least 93-94 to keep matters honest.

Has to get that ten mph different I at ion from fb to ch.

Fangraphs had it at 4.2 runs above average, the only pitch he had with a better than average run value. It's a good changeup, but you can't rely on a changeup as your primary pitch, that uh, why it's the changeup.

It was generally rated the best changeup in minor league baseball.
