22 hours ago22 hr 3 minutes ago, The Mighty Mite said:They basically got nothing for him.Exactly. That's why it surprises me they never tried him in the OF to see if they could either actually use him, or build some surplus value. Mediocre bats who have no real defensive position don't really get much of a return. Honestly, it's the fact of the rest of the roster being so bad, that he looks decent in comparison.

On paper seems like very little relative to a guy who can hit (even if he is positionless). Hoping to find out he got an outsized bonus to sign or something. I do get that Sosa wasn't getting the playing time here anyway but this seems like yet another Getz deal where goforward outbound WAR will be better than incoming WAR.single A season just started, first game was 11 days agonot sure what his delay is, maybe he's hurt

If you aren't an early pick, you might not even break camp the next year, and instead play complex ball until a spot opens up. As a 17th round pick out of HS, I am not surprised he hasn't played yet, even if they see something in him.
22 hours ago22 hr Sosa was a one dimensional player who should have been a DH, but with Beni around (and the Sox not willing to cut him) he had no place in the lineup. Some of that is on Sosa for not being able to at least be an average fielder and his baseball sense was lacking but some of that is also on the Sox since he was in the organization for a number of years and they couldn't help develop the skills he needed.

If the goal when acquiring young players is to prefer players who already have the difficult-to-teach skill, that's cool with me. But once you're looking at MLB production, I don't see much reason to put much emphasis on exactly how a given player managed to reach X level of production if X level of production is good enough.I doubt this played a role in the decision to trade him, but I am aware of some data indicating some pretty brutal aging curves for contact/contact-quality on pitches outside the strike zone. That is, players do not get better at making contact at pitches outside the zone and their ability tends to fall off a cliff in the late 20s in a way that is sooner and faster than other hitting skills. So I guess one way to counterargue what I said above is that Lenyn, who really relies on production against chased pitches, has the type of game that is known to age really poorly. But I don't know how much I believe it and I doubt this was a deeply considered decision.I am looking more at his baseball IQ in general, and the inability (or willingness) to find a defensive position he could play.

21 hours ago21 hr Don't like this move but at least Meidroth and his incredible production will continue to play every day.

Sosa can't even get on the field for this team, and was just traded away for essentially nothing in a move that is obviously "we were going to DFA this guy but might as well get SOMETHING" That should tell you enough about Lenyn Sosa's value.

Meidroth put up 1.3 war in his rookie year, he has definitely earned the right to continue to be given an opportunity.Sosa is a mediocre bat who can't play defense, its been 1,155 plate appearances, you know what you got there.
21 hours ago21 hr I am ok with this. If Sosa ends up being incredible, I will be annoyed. He just seemed so baseball-dumb.Seeing a lot of prospects with extreme power profiles, then a lot of 'great fielders, ok hit tool, low power'. You'd hope the latter develop power, the former become well rounded. Please god let it work at some point.

20 hours ago20 hr a 17th round pick. you can't make this s%*# up. trading any asset away for nothing while Beni still has a roster spot. Everybody in the org sees how the Sox do business. It's a depressing horrific work environment.
