JR has done a number of things over the years that turned out to be PR disasters. The White Flag Trade and a bunch of others were PR disasters. I'm seeing a upcoming PR disaster. Extending Murakami. The only way I can see JR signing him is before the present contract expires. If he becomes a free agent after this present contract expires there is no way JR will spend big money to sign him.The time to sign him is during this season. If he doesn't sign somebody like Murakami who is he ever going to give a big contract to? Not extending Murakami would be another PR disaster on JRs part.

Maybe they will resign him since he makes them money in Japan. Maybe Ishbia convinces him as he gets closer to ownership. It’s been reported his agent and Getz have a great relationship and who knows what Mune cares about when it comes to life. No point in worrying about it right now.

Let's wait and see. The value Mune provides off the field probably would work in his favor in terms of getting a big contract from JR. he also might want to be the face of a franchise. He seems like a chill guy and it does seem like he has a genuine convection the fan base and the city.

Nobody is getting extended 2 months into a contract when the next season is likely to be locked out. It’s more than simply wait and see

And let’s be honest, say he hits 100 homers the next two years. They might be a gigantic bidding war for him. Can’t get mad if they can’t outspend the Dodgers on a Japanese player.

Or if he wants the most money and/or to play with his buddy in LA. The only way he stays here is if he truly wants to. It is what it is.

Sadly if he hits 50 this year and slashes 230/330/550 it's either extend or trade in offseason. Can't let him get to FA and only get a comp pick, if he even qualifies based on his status.

yea I don't think it does. we'll see. One year as a 5 WAR player is "only" like 100 million in "surplus" value so a fair package would probably be less than what Crochet get, maybe slightly less. So a Teal type and then probably a couple C+ types or lotto tickets.

I'd look into trading him for an absolute haul if possible. Getz will be a legend if he can pull off a heist of great prospects.

Under $200 million won't get it done...but there's that 10-15% chance he's a Konerko/Buehrle or even simply Jose Ramirez loyalist.

You are only estimating his contract based on his numbers. He is likely going to be the third most popular Japanese player of all time after Ichiro and Ohtani. Marketing potential…
