I agree about the upcoming games. At the same time, it'll likely tell us who Cleveland are as well as, not to take anything away from them, but they have gone on this run by beating up on some really bad teams. Their June is more difficult. This weekend will be really tough for them and I can see us making a game or two.

Your 2026 Chicago White Sox.....We no longer suck!!! And for now, that is enough to stay in the Central race way deeper into the season than I thought. They have been way more watchable since Colson

I don't think the 2026 team is built to make a deep run in the playoffs, if they even get there.

Probably not going to win the WS for a while considering the Sox and Cubs have only won one time each in over 100 years. It's just damn fun watching this team. They are getting right up there with some of the most exciting White Sox teams I can recall starting with the '77 Hitmen. What a summer that was in the old yard. Then TLR's '8 team with Fisk and Luzinski...roof shots with Harry announcing them. I loved the 2005 WS win, but there have been so many great seasons over the many years on 35th Street.

I'd get the straight-A/perfect attendance tickets, and my dad would take me to 3-4 ballgames a summer. 74, 77. 83 were all great, fun teams.

A true overachiever like Getz.

I am a believer.

Hi guys. First time I've been able to log on since six weeks or so I think. My cookies don't work or whatever.

Before it doesn't work again for me ... my early impressions of course are very favorable. I realize I have hated our rebuilds but I have to give credit where it is due. Getz may be the answer. I still haven't returned to mlb.com but I watch the highlights and we have definitely got some 'amazing' lift and pull guys in Muni, Colson and Vargas. I personally am a fan of Antonnucci (sp?). And I've always liked Meidroth and I've never been a Beni hater. I also like the Savannah Bananas guy. In other words, with three power hitters minimum (I like our catchers too, way to bomb it Quero) I think we can stay in the Central race all year. That's because with pitchers only going 3-4 innings max I think we have enough bodies to do enough on a given night for us to win.

I don't know enuf about our pitchers still. Our closer seems good. Martin has a 1.61 ERA. I'll learn more about them as the summer progresses.

Since this may be the only chance for me to post since my computer hasn't been able to connect, let me say I'm hopeful the rebuilding is over. I'm starting to think Getz may be outstanding. Muri is the find of the decade. The Cub series was awesome and exciting.

I am thinking from listening to highights our play by play guy still is annoying.

If anybody has suggestions for me to be able to log on let me know. It's hard going cold turkey on the site, but there's some guy on X who posts a lot about the Sox and a couple facebook guys do it so I've been able to get my fix so to speak a little bit.

If you missed greg, thanks. If you hate greg, that's your prerogative. GO SOX. GO GETZ. The rebuilding may be finished tra la tra la.

Harry wasn't on the Sox announcing staff in 1983, he left after the 81 year to join the Cubs even though the Sox offered him more money to stay. Harry in his biography later said he left because of the SportsVision experiment and because he couldn't stand the new owners.

You are correct. It was 1981 not 1983.

I think his purported reason relating to his views about the new owners was questionable and I took it more as a parting shot. Harry's decision was swayed by a meeting with a Tribune executive who emphasized the value of the nationwide exposure of WGN as compared to a minimal audience of local cable subscribers. The decision was a no brainer. The late Eddie Einhorn (not Reinsdorf) was the one who sought to monetize cable subscriptions which killed off a large segment of the White Sox fan base. That whole ON TV subscription service which required decoding boxes was a sham. Many, many baseball fans across Chicago and beyond refused to jump through hoops to get a decoder box and watch very low quality broadcasts. That really fvked the White Sox fan base for generations to follow. I recall my parents , long time White Sox fans, just turning on Channel 9 after that and watching Harry and the Cubs.

I soldered together a pirated ON TV decoding kit just because I refused to switch allegiance to the Cubs and pay for what should have been and always was free. Ediie Einhorn was a gaddamn fool.

Sox enter today 8th in wRC+ at 104 5th in xwOBA at .334, 8th in position player fWAR at 7.0 and 12th in defensive runs saved at -5.8. They've been moving up defensively they've played better than run neutral defense the last couple weeks.

Pitching is falling off a bit but holding its own: 17th in pitching fWAR at 4.1.

Given the lack of pitching depth, I still think they'll struggle to win 80 games at best

Still best case scenario have to double cover a lot of August and September Schultz starts like they did with Crochet 3-4 inning starts a couple of years ago.

I think the key may be if they can beat up on the Royals and Tigers and maybe even the Twins...I just don't know if Detroit is going to continue to suck.

I was in the electronics component industry and those black boxes were ubiquitous. So many family members had season tickets it really didn't matter but in a small way it was a source of pride how we suffered.

They were a couple decades ahead of their time, which is kind of amazing. But way too early.

They were a couple decades ahead of their time, which is kind of amazing. But way too early.

From the feature I did on the history of SportsVision:

One Man Remembers

Mike Leiderman came to Chicago in the late 70’s working at WMAQ-TV doing sports then went on to host “PM Magazine”. But his heart was still in sports and when the opportunity came to go to SportsVision as the main anchor (Duane Dow, formerly of WLS-TV sports, worked weekends) he jumped at it.

“I was talking with a station in Cleveland about hosting a morning show along the lines of what Phil Donahue was doing when SportsVision became an option,” he told me. “Merle Harmon, who did the Milwaukee Brewers for years, was the first anchor but he left and they wanted a replacement. They were paying real money and offered me a good deal so I signed up with them. I was contracted to work 200 days a year for them so that left me opportunities to do play by play and other things. My family and I loved Chicago and we wanted to stay here. It also gave me an opportunity to keep doing what I loved, which was sports. Even though it was new we just didn’t think about not making it. Everyone who worked there realized it was going to be a slow growth process.”

But ownership apparently did not and on December 31, 1983 the plug was pulled on it. It was a group decision to sell back the rights among the owners of SportsVision which included Einhorn, Reinsdorf, Chicago Sting owner Lee Stern and Bill and Arthur Wirtz of the Blackhawks.

Leiderman was asked when employees began to suspect something wasn’t right and issues were developing. “It was about the time we starting seeing ads in newspapers for decoder boxes!” he said laughingly. “Instead of paying for the converter box and the hook- up fees people were just buying those boxes for like 10 dollars and watching at home. It was problematic for us.”

The fact that people were buying those boxes did provide perhaps the most memorable line in the entire SportsVision experience. It came on December 31, 1983 during the final show. Leiderman was hosting with Sox co-owner Eddie Einhorn as his guest. Mike looked into the camera and said, “Those who are watching us in the piracy of their homes…” as Einhorn started to laugh. “To this day when I see Eddie he’ll bring up that line”, Mike told me.

Leiderman also was the last person to be on a TV set with Sox announcer Jimmy Piersall who was fired after his on-air comments after the Sox lost opening night in Texas back on April 4, 1983, by the score of 5-3.

“Greg Walker started at first that night. He was a rookie then. Texas’ infield was as hard as concrete and he made a few errors and didn’t handle a few other balls that were generously scored as hits. Jimmy and I were back in the studio and we went live between innings. I was setting Jimmy up for his analysis and he was just merciless with his comments. He was ripping Walker, Jerry Reinsdorf, and the Sox organization. I actually went back to the control room and asked ‘what should I do? Should I challenge him? What?’ They said ‘just let him go.’ He was fired the next day.”

Asked if he had any regrets Leiderman said, “No, I don’t regret it. We were the first station in the country devoted totally to our teams, we weren’t at the mercy of anything else, we were different, unique and you look around today and you realize all the regional sports channels started with us. I enjoyed it, worked with great people and it enabled me to stay in Chicago. I’m thankful for that.”

How to sum up the experiment known as SportsVision? Well you could do a lot worse than to say, ‘a brilliant idea that simply was ahead of its time.’

I sold a lot of parts that went into those boxes and back then didn't give it a second thought.

At least they should have thrown in a Playboy TV subscription back in the 80s...

What made me smile this morning was David Haugh on the Score saying, " Waves of prospect call ups for the White Sox".

"I'm a believer, not a trace of doubt in my mind."

It's fun to think of all the positives so far this season, and the future looks bright.
