To me, there are four options:Option Gonzalez to AAA; no other changesOption Perez to AAA; platoon Gonzalez & Meidroth at 2BDFA Acuna; platoon Gonzalez & Meidroth at 2BTrade Benintendi; use Gonzalez as the primary DHDoor Number 1. Most likely. Sox will not need any more LH bats once Murakami comes back. (LH bats: Colson, Murakami, Teel, Antonacci, Braden, Benintendi)Need a RH bat so Perez stays for the time being. There is no evidence that Gonzalez can play second base at the major league level. There is defensive value in a set infield including positioning, range adjustments, covering second and double plays.'69 Cubs: Santo, Kessinger, Beckert and Banks..2005 White Sox: Crede, Uribe,Iguchi Konerko 2006 White Sox: Vargas, Montgomery, Chase and Murakami. All worked together hand and glove.- Need Acuna more than Gonzo for infield defense, speed on the bases, and his slightly improved RH bat.Sure, if Benintendi were to be traded Gonzo could platoon at DH. That's not going to happen now though, so back to Door #1. Edited to add that it may be more likely that Gonzo gets traded than Benintendi (age, Benintendi's existing contract). I guess we will wait to see if there is interest in either one of them in exchange for pitching. Edited July 6Jul 6 by tray
July 7Jul 7 Just saw the update on Thorpe and Bush. Wonder when they'll be back. Seems like they're still a ways away. Edited July 7Jul 7 by ron883

Gonzo is gunning for Ole Slow Bat's job at 2nd.

If so, they didn’t push past a single inning in either. I said it in another thread, but I think they are fast tracking for a bullpen role with the major league club.

July 7Jul 7 First pitch 100mph liner to RF for MuneTagged up and went to 2nd on a flyout to deep LCFDidn't tag on a sac fly to RF. Was active and ready to run on a full count with 2 outs, but the batter K'd to end the inning.
July 8Jul 8 2 Ks (one swinging, one looking) in Mune's other ABs. Played 5 innings and saw 14 pitches across his 3 ABs.Didn't get particularly tested at 1B but did all the routine stuff.
July 8Jul 8 Author Update on Hays & Pereira per Sox Machine:It's a less ballyhooed and less imminent return, but Venable said Austin Hays' continued ramp-up could have him on a rehab assignment after the All-Star break. Everson Pereira is still having post-concussion symptoms flare up at times, and doesn't have as specific of a timeline.
July 8Jul 8 Man that Pereira concussion is serious. I also believe this likely effects how he plays when he goes to the wall or dives for a ball long term. You just can't help that it doesn't. I wish him the absolute best. It is not fun to experience.
July 8Jul 8 Author Update: Murakami began his rehab assignment in AAA yesterday playing 1B and going 1/3 with a single and two K’s. If today goes well, there is a real chance he could be up for the start of the Athletics series on Friday. Pereira remains out with concussion symptoms still flaring up and there is no clear timeline on his return. Hays is making progress with a rehab assignment likely shortly after the All Star break. Thorpe is throwing live BP and hopefully not far off from starting his own rehab assignment. Bush & Berroa are way behind in their recoveries from TJS and both appear to be unlikely contributors for the Sox this year.On the minor league side, McDougal, Gonzalez, & Adams have completed their rehab assignments and are back in AAA. Tanner being used a pure reliever is an interesting development and could quickly allow him to enter the major league mix. Gonzalez & Adams remain two of the important depth pieces in AAA, but are still getting some rust off. Shane threw 51 pitches and 2 1/3 innings for the Dash last night giving up 3 runs with 6 K’s & 2 BB’s. Bergola has now missed nearly three months with a bone bruise, but appears to be close to a return.IL - Rehab Assignment:Murakami, 1B - Hamstring (5/29)7/10/15 Day IL:Pereira, OF - Concussion (6/17)Gilbert, LHP - Shoulder (6/9)AAA IL:H. July 9Jul 9 Mune played the full 9 innings today and went 1-4 with a double and a walk. Looks like he's moving fine, scored from 2nd on a single late in the game.Seems on track to return next series.
