6/12 GT - White Sox vs. Dodgers (6:40pm CST)

Featured Replies

After two huge wins over the Braves, our beloved 1st place White Sox were almost subjected to certain defeat after @ron883 broke gamethread rules. Thankfully a new thread appeased the baseball gods enough to bring upon storms & tornados and result in a postponement. As such, the Sox enter this challenging series against the Dodgers with momentum still on their side.

Tomorrow’s game will feature Anthony Kay vs. Roki Sasaki. After a solid May, Kay looks to recover from a disaster of a start against the Phillies. The Dodgers won’t make that easy as they currently lead the MLB with a team best 120 wRC+ and sixth overall against LHP at 108. The one saving grace is Ohtani exited tonight’s game with an injury and it seems like there is a real chance he misses tomorrow’s game.

As for Sasaki, while his full season figures are pretty ordinary, he’s been on an absolute heater over his past four starts posting an 1.87 FIP and 2.24 xERA. The Sox will certainly pose a challenge as they are currently 5th in baseball with a 107 wRC+ and have been on an upward trajectory as of late. Since May 1st, the Sox have posted a 116 wRC+ and that’s jumped to 124 since Murakami went out (with a 141 wRC+ against RHP).

On paper, you probably give the edge for tomorrow’s game to the Dodgers. However, the Sox are 21-11 at home and have won 7 straight. And with an unplanned day off, Venable will have a rested bullpen and should be able to have a short hook with Kay. Gun to head, I think the Sox’s offense keeps on slugging and pulls off a 5-4 win.

Let’s fucking go!!!

I can't wait for the Dodgers to crush the white Sox here. Chicago White Sox/OP needs to be taught a lesson.

I used to consider you a brother, but this betrayal stings. There are some things you just don’t do in life and one of them is stealing gamethreads on winning streaks. I wonder what Gemini would think about the legendary ron883 now!

Gram Parsons was truly at the forefront of country-rock. A great voice and talent tragically cut short at a young age like so many other musicians of that era. The lip-sync video though is cringe-worthy and was produced without the original band. Thanks for posting it though.

Sasaki struck out 10 in his last start. Hopefully Sox hitters will be patient, wear him down, and get to the bullpen. I wish Mune could face him. That would be an interesting match-up worth the price of admission.

Yes, sucks not having Murakami for this series given we’re facing both Sasaki and Yamamoto. Would have been fun matchups to watch.

Will Smith is out for LA, old friend Chuckie Robinson likely starting behind the plate.

Vesia probably not available for their pen after pitching two straight. One of Scott/Klein might be out too, both have gone 2 of last 3.

Ohtani will reportedly see how he feels after flying in and warming up.

I hope he's okay but also sits out a couple games as a precaution.

They have Dalton Rushing likely starting behind the plate

You know what it’s a long season and the Dodgers should just rest Shohei and Freeman for this series it’s fine

Shohei left the game with an injury yesterday or 2 days ago didn’t he?

He was trying to reverse the Sox luck for those poor Cubbies...somewhat surreptitiously, of course.

"It wasn’t that long ago that on May 26 against the Colorado Rockies, Ohtani also exited early after getting plunked on the wrist.

Dave Roberts spoke with Kirsten Watson about Ohtani’s exit, noting that he acknowledged the discomfort around the sixth inning on Thursday. Roberts doesn’t expect him to miss Friday’s opener against the Chicago White Sox."

I feel good about him being in there tomorrow, but obviously with the travel tonight, we just gotta see how he comes in… I don’t know if it was when he tried to steal second base, but I didn’t hear about it last night, didn’t hear about it today until about the sixth inning.

Cali's post hype former prospect James Outman from Twins to Tigers, btw.

These games are sold out from what I saw. Sucks that Mune and possibly Shohei are both out.

This feels like 2 out of 3 for the Sox. The extra day off should have helped colson and sam, and bullpen rest was huge. Just gotta avoid pages from getting on base too much and have a solid gameplan against Freeman. It feels so weird being extra confident to say this.

If you wanted to be on TV for 3 minutes you had to lip sync your music and even with MTV almost every music video was lip-synced because people bought the records because of the studio versions.

If it wasn't for lip-syncing we'd have never seen the pre MTV bands of the 60's and 70's on film at all. Very few of them took being on film very seriously. The Beatles were an exception but they were an actual phenomenon. Chicago was one band who filmed themselves performing live a lot.

The Dodgers are a very destructive force. They might not have the pitching Atlanta does but they must have close to a dozen games where they but up 10 or more runs. They have to be at or near the top in that category. It's hard to keep up the home magic against that kind of hitting even when the Sox pitching feels the home magic almost as much as the hitters.

But 18-3 at home is a decided advantage lately.

I’m drinking it too.

Dave Roberts said at his press conference the other day that removing Shohei was purely precautionary and that he fully expected him to be in the lineup on Friday (today).

No reason not to believe him and he DHs anyway. Oh well. They aren't playing that great lately and we've been strong at home, I think 2 of 3 is doable but I'd be fine avoiding a sweep.

What do the Sox do with this guy? Why waste a roster spot on him when he is done rehabbing.

Is he any worse than Trevor Richards? As much as people scream about him, Richards has a nice WHIP and is working on a 6 game scoreless streak. Hicks would refuse an outright assignment and become a free agent for the control over his callup, I'd imagine.
