4 hours ago4 hr Sonny Gray and Aroldis Chapman just seems too perfect in terms of needs and commitment to players

The only change is that the Braves could really use another SP and they will also be super attractive to Sonny.

They're not going to trade away their top young assets. They're going to be very selective about getting a good deal. I wouldn't expect too much. If Sonny Gray is mostly a cash deal maybe him. Maybe can add an unrated RP or 2 also but maybe the help comes from within since we have a lot of young arms mending. Hell the team has ridden the youth this far might as well just let it ride.

2 hours ago2 hr 3 minutes ago, fathom said:Oh yeah, more like top 5Shouldn't be. And certainly should never pay that price. But probably will be.Again, though, moves like this are how we got bad. ( it was a big part of it). Imagine had the Cubs chosen Crochet instead of Madrigal. And it's not like Chapman has been pristine. His 1.27 WHIP trails Grant Taylor, Newcomb, Richard, the much maligned (at least by me) Eisert; it also trails Tyler Davis and also much maligned Leasure. And for the bWAR believers, behind Taylor and Newcomb and Hudson. 1 hour ago1 hr As much as Chapman would solve a lot of problems, I kind of think the Sox are going to fast track McDougal into a relief role. I think he could be dominant in that role pretty quickly and allows you to deploy prospect capital to a SP.

Sticking him in the middle of the rotation does nothing but help. Not expecting an ace, but someone who can come in and eat innings and win some tough games

I always felt like Gray was Adams’ best case 100% outlook scenario.

You can't pay a top 100 prospect for a 36 year old non-ace; he's in the midst of a great season which could very well even out over the 2nd half, as it did in 2025: first half 2.5 ERA and 1.083 WHIP; 2nd half 5.45 and 1.46.

You are free to prospect hoard

Anytime a pitcher starts to have forearm soreness to me that's a major red flag. He just got back to live action recently.I think the Sox, like it or not, have to give it time to see if this medical issue is behind him or not. Under no circumstances would I be rushing him.

Don’t think Sonny Gray with a NTC and hefty contract will be the exception.

Under no circumstances would I be rushing him. He’s actively on a rehab assignment right now in High A, so he’s working his way back from injury at a normal pace. When I say “fast track” I mean punting on his development as a SP, including building up arm strength, to instead help the major league bullpen whenever he is fully healthy and the rest is warm off.
