I maintain that these players will cost way, way less than the board thinks. But also that yes we may dangle higher level pitching prospects like MacDougal for a surer thing this/next year.

If Detmers lands 2 top 100 guys it is because they are back half pitching prospects. Otherwise I’ll eat my hat.

I would think higher since there may not be much supply

We have no excuse not to buy a top-end SP in free agency this offseason. As such, I’d rather keep Bonemer and go with a cheaper SP at the deadline. I truly believe we should not be doing “all-in” trad

Heyman reporting that Detmers will be made available.

While I think you’d be selling low, I’d do something centered around Carlson.

Hmm. I like it. Not a big K guy , more of a control guy. However he's been a pretty good pitcher for the last 5 years but only a starting pitcher in 2025 & '26. He's 33 and a FA after the season ends.

Made 31 starts 2025 165.2 IP, 3.53 ERA, 4.11 FIP 1.3 WHIP.

Pitched 3.0 innings in the 2026 WBC no earned run given up.

2026, 9 starts 2.39 ERA, 3.22 FIP, 1.1 WHIP

His fibula was fractured May 15 by a 111 MPH line drive by Spencer Jones of the Yanks. He initially stayed in the game.

Mets want to extend him and will decide on his TDL fate after Holmes decides what to do with the Mets offer.

His career is one of the strangest in MLB history. Didn't start a single game before being turned into a starting pitcher and was pretty damn good. I'd do it. Would also be a good mentor to Taylor who is trying to follow a similar career trajectory. Think we should target one of Wacha, Holmes, or Deitmars

I hope you’re right hombre but with so many potential buyers I don’t see it. If a lot of AL teams drop out of the pack by 8/2 then sure, I’ll buy what you’re selling.

Time to trade for a catcher?

No , just another talking point about trades. Can you get a defensive late inning sub, RHH for next to nothing like Korey Lee ? Then sure.

Korey Lee would actually be fine except the Sox hate him.

And wasn't it feedback that pitchers don't really like throwing to him? If the pitchers don't like him, and after a hot week, he'll normalize back to his regular, big league .546 OPS, find another name to yell out. The Cardinals just DFAed a RHH catcher. Maybe he's a guy.

After the game I watched Sean and Herb on CHGO and they were talking possible trade candidates. Sean mentioned Shane Bieber, he would be a rental and might be available if Toronto keeps losing. If the Sox pick up the money they could probably get him for a low level prospect.

I heard that the Sox don't want Lee handling the pitching staff. They must be onto something because he was DFAed and every team passed on him.

It was that's why I said the Sox hate him but who actually knows ? You'll never get a pitcher to admit they don't like Lee's game calling or catcher's mound-side etiquette.

As a hitter, the last time he was up he hit pretty good in a 40 plate appearance sample.

In the words of that philosopher Ozzie Guillen, "F@#$ feelings. It's about winning."

If Lee can perform better than Romo he needs to be called back up, end of story.

I think the Angels have better players, especially pitchers, than than their record. Forget career year Detmers and Soriano; everyone wants them, they will be overpriced, and buying career years is a way to the poorhouse.
look at Uretha, Peterson, et al. Yes, they could cost a bundle, but you never know....Mozeliak didn't draft them and he might take a discount. Probably better winter trades, but if Mozeliak is cleaning house, maybe it could work.

A 1-2-3 of Burke-Detmers-Martin can make us competitive for the playoffs. We are seeing in real time Burke take that next step and Martin is a legit #3 despite some regression & fatigue. Hopefully Schultz can build some momentum and make a case to be the clear #4 SP down the stretch. Kay is probably fine for the #5 spot and if not you have Sandlin, S. Smith, Adams, & Fedde in reserve.

I really think Detmers is the dude to get. You can NOT give up Bonemer for him, but I think we enough other pieces to make a compelling offer. I really hope Getz is aggressive here as a quality SP is our single biggest need hands down.

After watching Carlson all weekend, I would have a hard time trading him. Dude looks like he’s just beginning to scratch the surface of his potential offensively. I would rather bundle a quantity over quality package that excludes teenagers.

Hypothetically, wonder what the cost of Shea Langeliers would be. Also Heliot Ramos?? If decent pitching is just gonna be crazy expensive I’d prefer they just pay up on bats then

There really are no dominant teams in the AL. You have to get 1 more pitcher but can't break the bank. I would love detmers but can't overpay.

I don’t see any good pitchers in there…

I don’t think this guy has ever gotten anything right in the years he has cosplayed as an insider. It’s quite impressive that he hasn’t gotten a single thing right just out of sheer luck.

You can't count on Smith. Had a brutal outing recently, if I remember it was yesterday. Just crazy wild and even hit two batters.

This means nothing.

What about eating some shredded lettuce from Taylor Farms?

I definitely feel you. We’d almost certainty be selling low. I don’t like the idea either. Just think for a controllable SP it will likely cost him because Bonemer should be untouchable and you can’t trade the guys you just drafted. I guess maybe Fauske is another possibility, but not sure he’d have the same value.
